The Big 'Let's sell our cars and take buses/ebikes instead' thread (warning: probably very dull)

No, but I use it so infrequently the start/stop doesn't work.

Sorry notTerry.

I very much doubt I'll replace the Almera when it dies, not least as I use it so infrequently I disconnect the battery in between using it, so the start button works when I do.

Went from a two car household (2 residents) to a one car household. Does that count?
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
Go all french and get a shit car with shit suspension and shit ergonomics. Store it in a barn for 8 months of the year? #2cv

Who's doing that?
Seems to some kneejerk leftiebollox reaction to anyone raising concerns about the burden on motorists to label them as claiming there is a 'war on motorists'. Must be quite tiring to keep repeating that hoping that people will believe it.

Who's threatening to flounce now?

I'm argument sensitive. The flounce risk is amber.

I think the flouncers have already flounced. Christ, if arguing was going to make me leave the forum I'd be long gone.

Good point. If I need a good argument, I can rely on you. Or me, if it's 3am and I'm having trouble sleeping. Or Focuzing, if I've taken LSD.

Your favourite paper.
Think that's pretty clear that some think there is a war.
RAC seems to think the overall cost of motoring including taxes is rising almost exactly in line with wages, though, and way, way below RPI.

Anytime, FA...
I suppose now that Rick is gone, there are less of the 'shooting fish in a barrel' type arguments. I also miss the old random leftie posts about '[Insert name of rich person or multinational corporation] doesn't pay their fair share of tax', which were always good fun.

It's a useful skill to be able to interpret press based hyperbole designed to get clicks/views and political hyperbole to get votes. However as some including yourself have acknowledged before, there are people such as Khan who could hardly be described as pro motorist.

BTW does your OH know that you have this view of her as a motorist?

I don't see why the mayor of London should be in any way pro motorist.

Why would we want to do that?

I thought that was what this thread was about.

Vehicles in the future will be automous, if you need transport it will just arrive at your location and take you where you want. There won't be a need to physically own them, although if you did you could make money out of it by renting it out.
As they evolve the mortality rate will keep reducing. I don't think classics will be illegal on the roads though, it doesn't really matter about them as long as automous cars are much more prevalent.
Newton would be staggered.
It's crazy to think a We Robot in the future will probably be able to get in a classic car and drive it.

Although we're not the robots, We is the Robots.

There is no way that those robots being demonstrated were autonomous.

I try to think of people as people rather than what vehicle they happen to be in. If people want to define themselves by what vehicle they use then that's their problem. She supported the ULEZ expansion if that's what you are asking.

Why do people keep saying "no way" and can't envisage the evolution? People mocked car/vehicle autonomy and now we're on the cusp. Did you see how the hand worked, that's some impressive R&D.
0 -
Yes, but they weren't autonomous.
Robots that are controlled are impressive but aren't really a great new tesla innovation.

I don't know, I expect not to anything meaningful, a case of time though. The car autonomy side can be used for the robots navigational awareness. Apparently the hands use cables to control the fingers akin to how we use ligaments/muscles in ours, that's how they can keep the hands small strong and nimble.

That fact Kraftwerk doesn't get a like disappoints me.

It is, but I still haven't seen a convincing reason. Or anywhere near it. So i was hoping that somebody might be able to provide one.
