Giau today. That completed the 3 Dolomites that I really wanted to do after doing them IRL in July. More importantly, completed my 30th consecutive Strava climbing challenge.

    Bondone tomorrow?
Possibly. Entirely depends on my wife's cold affected sleep pattern.
Is it wrong of me to wish her an unsettled night? 🤣🤣🤣
As long as you don't wish her not to wake up at all, it's all game...
even then, its all dependant on the size of the life insurance policy tbh

you don't cross the road for a bag.....

I cannot find Bondone in app and although I added it as a favourite it does not show. Simplon it is. Ah well…
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

It's not just me then. Messed on with this for a while last night. I couldn't find Bondone in the app. I have the right one saved as a favourite that shows in the web account but not the app. Also the app shows only one of three favourites saved, and I can't see how to remove one.

I don’t know why you guys struggle… maybe the temporary membership has limitations?

Must be this. All the other rides are fine but Bernard and Bondone are no-shows.
Noted that these are the 2 with the greatest amount of climbing.

Open up the ride in the web account and there is an option, as below.

It could be that they are not official ROUVY routes with AR and all sorts … maybe as a guest you only get to see the official routes… kind of a promotional way into the app, they only show you the good stuff…?

That is an excellent loop IRL from Cortina. Easier clockwise (Valparola in this case) than anti-clockwise (Giau in this case).

Couldn’t finish the Simplon this morning… legs were in pain and I hit the proverbial wall… just didn’t have any motivation to climb the last 3 km… oh well, that’s me done… 6 and 3/4 cols done.
On reflection, some routes were a bit too long… St Bernard especially… next year I’ll try to make it more snappy

Well done everybody for having a go and to Jimbo for going the furthest and the fastest

7500kCal in 7 days should have offset the festive indulgence… 😀

Good effort guys. Medio Fondo on Zwift for me this morning. 79.5km, 900+m climbing in a tad over 2h30.

I know exactly what you mean - I too, didn't enjoy the last section of the Simplon thro that seemingly endless tunnel!!!
Must admit that my legs are certainly feeling the last few days of climbing - and to tell you the truth, I couldn't face my final Col this morning . I'm hoping that I'll have a bit more motivation to give it a go either this afternoon or this evening.
  • As a side note, the Lavaredo video wasn’t working… stuck on the initial frame

  • I was also thinking of going down to 7 Cols over 8 days next year. For a reason or another, you might need a day off and it’s hard to make it up by doing a double. With the 500 you can have a day off no probs and spread the mileage over the remaining 7 days… thoughts?

When doing the original 500 outdoors there was always going to be at least one day off. But then you could pick a long flat route to catch up.

I think maybe picking a set climbing height with suggested rides. 10k this year. Deliberate?
Those toiling for days can compensate with alternate harder climbs to make up elevation?

If only I'd thought of this last week. 😉

I just thought that providing direct links to the routes would make it easier to participate, as opposed to planning elevations.
10k is probably excessive, last year it was 9k if memory serves me well… 8k would probably be more appropriate… it needs to be doable.

I have a few ideas for next year, and some good climbs in mind… could be a two tier challenge…. The part-timer/time crunched 4 climbs with a minimum of 4k of climbing or the full monty with 8 climbs (or 7)

According to Strava last year I did the 8 rides in 7 days, that's 2 days off. Christmas and New Year. Grand total of only 7698m. I reckon 8000m is a reasonable challenge.

I've been watching this thread with interest, like the challenge idea and to be honest I have done virtually the same thing. But I am a year round user and trying to complete their challenges, build points etc. & completed the Epic Climbs in France & Alpenbrevet instead.

What I would recommend is you pick routes from the Rouvy specials highlighted on the app, like the PedalItaly, Cycling unlimited, Tour des Stations etc.
Videos are of a much higher quality, you'll get all the AR and Omniview features and far more other users to ride against / with. It also avoids all the "I can't find the route" stuff. I did the PedalItaly Etna & Stelvio in the last few days and they were top notch.

There is a lot of user created content in Rouvy, but they are gradually weeding out the poorer quality stuff and increasing their own stuff. I find unless you really want to do a climb you plan to / have done in real life, there is plenty to pick from from their stuff, of any difficulty you want.
  • Job done - completed my Col 8 this afternoon. I reckon that Stage 19 of next year's Giro will certainly be a very important stage. Looking forward to watching it on TV.
I also managed a wee Cool Down in Rome.
It's been a tough 7 days of Indoor rides - which was much better than trying to do the Rapha 500 outdoors in NE Scotland, as it's been really cold & icy here + quite a few of my cycling buddies have struggled outdoors over the festive period. For me - as soon as it gets icy, Indoors is Safer.

Well done Jim. You definitely win the maglia rosa for this year.

I was thinking of using the Vuelta routes for next year… they are official ROUVY routes with AR and all, often used for their races. There are enough climbs to make it interesting.

Could we use a platform that works for all?

Seems that everyone is getting different access - MF couldn't evrn get an account without having to put CC details in and TDV doesn't trust him with one of those.

Well that's Crans-Montana done and all 6 possibles complete with a total of 6551m climbing.
Might do the Gavia to match last years challenge or Stelvio from Bormio to break 8000m tomorrow if I get the chance while keeping the Giro spirit.

    Well done Jim!

Zwift don’t do climbs… RGT only have a handful of routes and one climb… for this kind of challenge I would say ROUVY is the best platform

The Gavia is a nice route… quite hard though… for something shorter and enjoyable, I did like this one recently

My legs tell me Zwift has climbs, but not Alpine style other than Alpe du Zwift.
Bkool offers a video/map/virtual_3D approach to real courses that is similar to Rouvy. No idea if anyone would have any trial account issues but I don't remember anything being locked or needing certain achievements to unlock.

Meh, did the Gavia followed by Stelvio IRL back in July. Piece of cake. 😉
Hardest part is getting on the trainer. Apparently we are getting the house ready for guests tomorrow, and my wife has had an early night for an early start. 🤬
