He's unified the hour record... Beaten Boardmans distance.

    56.792

    Ridiculous

Tbf everyone was saying that he was out of form. Some even said he wouldn't beat Bingham. He obviously thinks he could do even better! 😱😃😎🚴🚴🚴

I am not sure. You have no chance.

Hutch mentioned the air pressure was better to the tune of 200m for Bigham too.

Has Remco ever done any riding on the track?

I think his road performances were adversely impacted by his training to blow this record apart.
    Incredible.
When will the 60 km barrier be breached? 10, 20 years?

Perhaps he is aiming to peak on October the 8th but would he elevate the hour over the rainbow stripes?

4:13 4k pursuit pace for an hour, basically.

    Mind blowing.
  • Crazy power/distance, even with the aero drag of being unshaven! :D

Not in any of our lifetimes would be my guess. I think there's more chance this record will stand for 20 years

Fantastic achievement. He might be able to break 58 km if he goes again, but I doubt he will go again if no one else beats this record first.

I doubt this record will stand for 3 years, 5 at the outside, far less 20.

Now that there's a unified record it probably encourages even more attempts in the future.
  • It can only be beaten by someone like Van Aert, and not without a lot of work on the boards… but then again, maybe next year a young mega fast tester join the ranks

The cost for any attempt must be a hugely limiting factor. Obviously Ganna was amazing but the support and technology supporting him was huge

I thought the GCN coverage was good. They had prepared items about the technology etc and interviews (eg Viviani) to insert to maintain interest. Lot of preparation and money gone into that as well, not sure who paid, the broadcasters or Ineos or both?

Dowsett's opinion is that no one will trouble it in the next couple of years.

Ganna seems keen though, so maybe an early season effort as he alluded to.

Personally I think it makes it far more interesting for riders to be tackling this in their prime, than either towards the end of their careers, or virtually a last hurrah before they retire.

This distance will either generate a load of interest in the current riders, or the distance may mean it's a tumbleweed situation.

I'd have thought Ethan Hayter would fancy a crack at this at some point. He might not have the monster-watts of Ganna, but he's very aero and has the track craft.
  • After his aero guy broke the previous record, they must have known he was going to beat it by quite a bit, but still...

Probably not but I think there's more chance than 60km being broken

Hmmm. I'd give that 10 years with tech advances.
