No commentary on Eurosport for me - it's actually blissful not to have a certain bloke's inane shout ramblings over the pictures. I wish this was an option for each stage

I'm noticing a distinct lack of "fond memories of riding La Croix" posts, tweets and group messages...

It's not that bad a climb really ..by the time you get to the step in it the worst is behind

Any chance of Pidcock going solo on the CdF descent - I don't think it offers quite the same challenge and there's a bit of flat valley before the Alpe but got to be a possibility.

We did the Galibier the day before in the sun but the day we did this it was raining. I liked that much more.

That said the descent was one of the worst cold-experiences of my life. One of the few times I've ever lost it with my BFF.

    "Do you think we should..."

"NO! I'M GETTING THE **** OF THIS ****ING BIKE!!!"

I've made a fair few cold-related mistakes in water and snow but none were as bad as that.

(he's off doing the pan-celtic this week. Good on him, he's welcome to it...)

Not climbed the CdF from this side (went up the Glandon), but descended it on the 2015 Etape. Done up and down on the other side - it's fast in places, but there is a 3km climb half way down. then there's around 10 kms of valley before the Alpe. I liked it from the south, particularly as I outsprinted a french guy half my age to the top. :D

Robbie perfectly summing up my feelings regarding downhill sections on climbs, most recently expressed half way up Snowdon 20 miles into a marathon last Sunday. I absolutely hate going downhill knowing that you just have to regain that height to get back where you were. The end of Llangynidr Mountain is a bastard for it!

Lots of riders have rejoined the yellow jersey group, Castroviejo went out very early on the Galibier but is now in there and there must be over 100 riders. The sprinters will presumbly be quite happy with how the day has gone so far as it was a dangerous one for them.

Apparently the temperature has dropped from 38 degrees in the valley to a mere 30 on the climb.

NGL Froome doesn't look super comfortable in the group.

    Then again, it's Froome.

The ~1 mile descent after the nasty wall at Peniel is very welcome, part way up Road To Hell, especially if you aren't a lightweight rider.

Peloton looks spent - certainly seems like they want to let the break go.

Nice montage of how hot everyone is and how they're pouring water all over each other.

It's less than 2 kms. Seems to get longer every year though.

Come on lads, we need some Alp videos.

    https://youtu.be/Zd3BkQRDC68

    That's the Galibier.

Sorry, but the geographer in me cannot let that pass. Plus I distinctly remeber them from 2019 as they were even doing it in the morning of the stage when I rode up it.

Froome swinging off the back now, leaving gaps etc.

Thought he was getting dropped a while back and that Pidcock should find a different wheel.

It's horrible. A distinct lack of marmots and even the cows cannot make up for it.

Anyway is no one going to post this following the discussion they've just had on the English Eurosport commentary...

Be more zen - that's where the road goes, and it's not changing.

Not helped by the dribbling ramblings from the Eurosport commentary box.

I've been having a siesta. Yesterday, something kept me awake. Not so today.

Pidcock gets rid of the dead wood. Froome hangs on looking the best I've seen him post crash.

Pidcock, Meintjes, Froome, Ciccone and Powless - that's a decent bunch of climbers

It will be interesting to see who can stay with him on the descent. I amy be wrong but my memory is that Mientjes isn't great going downhill.

The leaders need to pick it up a bit now, descent might help them but it has come down quite quickly recently.
