Seems a popular win in the peloton as well as with the supporters. Didn't see that stage being a sprint between GC contenders and a few very select all-rounders

    Girmay nearly went off course

Always thought there would be strong climbers from the region, didn't expect to see a Classics rider / sprinter. When you think he went early and managed to hold off vdP who you would think of as probably the best or second best over a long sprint he really is something special.

    Not according to pcs .

It wasn't a full sprint stage, so not as many points for the winner

MVDP still top of my irrational dislike list but, fair play, that thumbs up was classy.

Nearly did that once, took the wire off and the cork flew out under the pressure from the bottle. Hit me in the forehead luckily!

Me missing the stage has a 100% correlation with stage quality thus far...

    Congrats Bini!

VdP maybe should reign it in a bit - especially after that chase back on earlier - but makes a great watch so hope he carries on.

And hopefully Girmay hasn't done serious damage to his eye - reading some reports he couldn't see out of it which doesn't sound good.

I mean it's not like there wasn't a warning it could happen.

In other news, Ewan came home alone and dead last, two minutes behind teammate Roger Kluge, who in turn was 10 minutes behind the next rider.
Not exactly the ideal way to conserve energy for tomorrow’s pan flat stage.

Lotto Soudal had two riders in that group ahead of Kluge (18 minutes down on the winner). Wouldn't it have made sense to just told them to park up once dropped and roll in together?

    From overjoyed to gutted 😢
Really hope he's OK. Start tomorrow looking pretty unlikely, but please let there be no long term damage

They need to tilt the bottle away from themselves when releasing the cork.
Odd that both MvdP and now BG have bit hit hard by the cork.

    Really?

I thought it best to hold it an inch from my eyeball just as I apply pressure for it to come out?

    What do you mean sarky?
You don't think it odd that someone like MvdP who has opened loads of podium bottles doesn't tilt the bottle away from himself?
