Moscon looks likely to get caught by the WVA group

If I was him, I'd have thrown the bike in a ditch and walked off into one of the fields...

Needed to get a bigger gap so neither of the other two wanted to close it, Colbrelli was too alert.

That was a tired sprint. Colbrelli takes it, Vermeersch holds on for second I think. Colbrelli seems happy. Moscon holds on for 4th and seems to take it quite well.

Lampert wins the van Aert group sprint.

Van der Poel did too much work as usual. He let Colbrelli sit in and do half turns for the last 80k

Vermeersch kicked it off way too soon there.

Colbrelli was odds on as soon as the 3 of them were on the front.

MvdP actually in the pain cave

The contraast between Colbrelli & MvdP after the line .....
  • Dorset_BoyDorset_Boy Posts: 5,904
And yet again MvdP beats WvA in a race that doesn't have a mountain in it.

Did exactly what he had to and almost held on.
  • If you can DQF someone for getting over emotional.....
Smartest rider on the day won.
MvDP: fantastic athlete, but couldn't win a game of draughts, never mind chess.

Season a few weeks too long for van Aert.

Well that was a great race. Not sure I’d be saying that if those where the conditions when I did the PR challenge.

Said it before and I’ll say it again. MvdP needs to learn give up races rather than towing everyone along. He always does far too much when riding in a group. The others know he will work and so leave him to it. In order to win a bike race you must be prepared to lose it. His sprints in classics is useless, but I fear that is due to him spending too much energy towing people along rather than being a bad sprinter. Something he definitely needs to work on.

He could do with spending time with someone like Cancellara or Boonen and taking in the knowledge.

Did MVDP do that much more than the other two? Vermeersch worked a fair bit and was out there longer. Colbrelli took his turns albeit shorter and also attacked before MVDP.
