Yeah, he's just doesn't have the experience or ego...TheBigBean said:The cyclingtips article posted in the other thread suggests there is more to do it than money. If he rides the tour there will be a lot of pressure and responsibility and might not be ready for that.

no.rick_chasey said:If he’s good enough to be taken to the Tour he is good enough to be paid properly.
he scraped into a team because he wasn't deemed as good enough.
he's only in the tour team because they have no one else.
now is the time, in clubbie vernacular, for him to prove himself.
then next year, reassess the situation and negotiate for a better contract on improved results..The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

This year he is basically a consultant trying to prove his wortj.
next year he can get a job if deemed good enough.
throwing his toys out of the pram a la prima donna ain't helping him one bit..The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

Apologies, and I am displaying my lack of interest in women's cycling.RichN95. said:pblakeney said:
Conflicting thoughts on this. Women's cycling will be overshadowed by the men's event, but it makes logical sense while the infrastructure is in place.
I'm referring to the Giro Donne
Your point was obviously well made to those not ignorant. 😉The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.1 -

He's been deemed good enough to take on his current contract. If he is genuinely that good then he will get a rise. Or he will ride on current contract. Or he won't go.The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

He was deemed good enough to take on his current contract not paid by DQF though. If he hadn't found sponsorship that paid him he wouldn't be riding for them.
So it only makes him "good enough" cos the team aren't paying him anything.0 -
and, ergo, basically he just bought his way onto a team that is DS'd by a mate of his......

Have you actually read any of the articles? This all comes from Leferve's column in Het Nieuwsblad, where he says that Bennett is unlikely to make the Tour, so he'll probably take Cavendish as the team's sprinter this year as he's shown them he has the speed still. Leferve raises the fact that he discussed this with Cavendish and both agree that if he's to ride the Tour then a better contract would be sensible, given the exposure and extra publicity Cavendish will get.MattFalle said:This year he is basically a consultant trying to prove his wortj.

No-one is being a prima donna, instead two adults have had a sensible conversation and agreed on something.
Then along comes what Cavendish would, rightly, dismiss as an internet forum person, and sounds off.6 -
You're making the mistake of thinking MF believes what he posts rather than writing stuff he knows will get a reaction.andyp said:

Would anyone put money on Cavendish winning a stage?0

Depends on the odds, but I'd say there is a decent chance of it.kingstongraham said:Would anyone put money on Cavendish winning a stage?

He's shown he's still got speed, he's got the best lead out in the peloton in Mørkøv and he's one of the absolute best in understanding how to ride a finish. He's also (possibly) replacing the best of the current sprinters, so the competition isn't as strong. I reckon he'd be in with a decent shout.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0

It’s more getting him over the lumps isn’t it?No_Ta_Doctor said:He's shown he's still got speed, he's got the best lead out in the peloton in Mørkøv and he's one of the absolute best in understanding how to ride a finish. I feel like more recently that’s where he’s struggled more rather than the finishing.0 -

Don't understand the problem some people have. It's fairly common in top level motorsport - a team don't have the budget to pay a driver/drivers, but hire those who can perform to a certain level, and who brings their own sponsors.
In this case a team have taken on a rider, who is bringing his own sponsors, and given him a chance to see if he still has it; it seems he possibly does - and thinks he's now worthy of a paid ride. It's up to PL to decide whether he thinks Cav is worth being paid. All Road/ Gravel: tbcWinter: tbcMTB: tbcRoad: tbc"Look at the time...." "he's fallen like an old lady on a cruise ship..."0 -
It's not like it's Tuesday night Hillingdon cat 4s is it?
If you're being taken to the tour as the designated sprinter, you've proven your worth.
If you're being taken and you're second in the all time list of stage winners, you're going to get lots of camera time (even if it's simply pre/post stage interviews).

You were having a go at ollie robinson the other day for being racist and sexist and being unable to mature and change as he aged.MattFalle said:seems to have worked for "the other two"...
You are barely any better with your anti-English hatred.0 -
theres a difference between racism, sexism and hatred and lointing out that jingoism has no part in a commercial contract market.
robinson is the self confessed former, i'm just pointing out the latter..The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

Think he's earned his place, and he's definitely one of the fastest sprinters again.
On the other hand, I don't think he's going to turn down a ride, even if he's not being paid. Business decision.0
