Gary Neville talks some shite.0

Shame to lose the Dutch - good to watch.
That red card must have been close to being a foul the other way - not saying it was but he gets bundled a little bit .[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -
Well it was an enjoyable watch for the neutral. Now to watch Belgium and Portugal grind each other to dust.0
-
I'm just hoping the Spanish have been more sensible with fans in the Seville stadium so I can watch the Belgium/Portugal match.0

Portuguese minister the other day urged the Portuguese fans to go "en masse" to Seville so you may have to switch off. Only an hour and a half from the Eastern Algarve.focuszing723 said:I'm just hoping the Spanish have been more sensible with fans in the Seville stadium so I can watch the Belgium/Portugal match.

Are you little Hattie Mancock in reverse?focuszing723 said:I'm not watching this in protest at the maxed out stadium capacity.
All you watchers are Covid complicit!0 -
He does which is why his stint at Valencia was so enjoyable.Pross said:Gary Neville talks some shite.

If I'm not mistaken, Dumfries in Dutch is pronounced like Dümfries would be in German, so the 'u' as much a 'i' as a 'u', i.e. something between both.First.Aspect said:Does anyone know how one of the Dutch team got a surname of (a) a small Scottish town (b) a small Scottish racing driver?
RC should know.
And the 'dum' bit probably derives from the word for 'thumb'. So the Dutch name Dumfries probably translates as the 'Thumbling from Friesland', Friesland being that NE part of the Netherlands adjacent the German border. I never noticed how small the player Dumfries was.0 -
I suppose I should also wonder how Dumfries, Scotland got its name....jimmyjams said:

The Dutch lost to Russia at the first knock-out in 2018, but Russia weren't bad then (most of their team now was 5 years younger then, as well as at home).rick_chasey said:w

Not the first time Holland have bossed the groups and gone out to an average Eastern European team at the first knockoutFirst.Aspect said:Someone needs to pop round to RC's place later and make sure he's okay.
I don't really like statistics used in football (I don't think that X hasn't beaten Y for10 or 50 years, and so on, has any relevance to a new match), but I think the only team against whom the Netherlands has a negative record in the last 30 years just happens to be Czechia. And that now continues.0 -

So, does this mean England are mega special as they topped the group that contained the Czechs.
Does it mean that Scotland are as good as Holland?0 -
Confused me yesterday with one of the Danish players being called Delaney. Doesn't sound very Danish and Wales used to have Mark Delaney playing for them0

Thing was, he clearly used his hand deliberately.DeVlaeminck said:Shame to lose the Dutch - good to watch.

Although I think the turning point in the game was actually a few minutes earlier, when the Czech goalie saved at the feet of Malen.
After the red card, De Boer's substitutes were then wrong, some in the reverse order to what he should have done, others totally wrong - I would have kept Blind on, and taken De Jong taken off.
But overall the Czechs deserved their victory. As it is a team game, I like it when tactics work (rather than a moment of genius by an individual or two), even if not always successful, as was the case yesterday with Austria. (I don't have quite the same opinion when it comes to cycling, though).0 -

Dumfries (/dʌmˈfriːs/ (About this soundlisten) dum-FREESS; Scots: Dumfries; possibly from Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Phris.
dùn ~ hill-fort; preas ~ thicket. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
The Danish Delaney is of Irish lineage as is O'Shaughnessy of Finland.Pross said:Confused me yesterday with one of the Danish players being called Delaney. Doesn't sound very Danish and Wales used to have Mark Delaney playing for them
Our Delaney, Mark was a tremendous full back but another player beset by injuries.
Believe he may now be a youth age coach at Aston Villa.0 -

That stayed hit Brian.
It accelerated after it left his foot.
It was past the goalie before he saw it.0 -
