Really sweet frame to keep for years

Right,

You lot have some taste so I posted this here.

I've shifted some stock so have about £3/3.5k sitting around and quite fancy something sweet to build up with some sweeet Campagnolo 12 speed mechanical.

Needs to be fat round carbon tubing, light, stiff as, look gorgeous and not be found at the local club.

Waddya say? Sarto or similar is where I am thinking.

Preferably nothing too much off the shelf so C64 and similar isn't really the direction I'm thinking of.

Was thinking C64 until i read your last para, would think Specialissima but you probably wouldn’t want one for the same reason.

Your Sarto choice will be perfect.

  • A couple of assumptions I'm making here:

    - You're looking at a rim brake frame
    - Sarto is probably the correct answer

With that in mind a sweary person on Youtube is generally complementary of Look frames so a 785 Huez?

Don't carbon frames melt in the rain? Must confess if I was blowing that kind of money I'd be looking at titanium or a bespoke stainless frame.
Just been for a walk in Richmond Park with the EPO and saw lots of people on very expensive bikes. Several 3Ts which leave me cold, as do the SWorks. Only bike I saw today that would tempt me out of that kind of cash was a Colnago

    Custom steel.

But if you’re insisting on carbon, Sarto or Legend.

I thought that when anyone mentions a frame lasting years, the answer is 'Titanium'? To avoid the aforementioned melting issues, obviously.

Steel has never grabbed me tbh - i know they some some utterly lush bits with it but for what I'm after - ten year bike, big phat tubes, big phat deep rims, 12 speed mechnical may as well go carbon.

unless you can tempt me differently.....

very good call - grazie - but i don't like the weird schizzle they do at the headstock - local shop does them and they always leave me a bit cold.

but grazie mille for the suggestion.

Not convinced that they are really using 3d printing for any good reason, tbh.

I just saw that there is a brand called Holland still doing that "exogrid" thing. Again, pointless but looks nice.

stainless steel, xcr tubing as it's seamless, polished shiny

won't melt in the rain, people will ogle it, cute girls will ask if they can take a picture to annoy their boyfriends

mine's 10+ years old now, still shiny in spite of riding it all year
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny

I own a Legend HT10.5 with Record 11-speed mechanical and Cycle Clinic wheels. This frame was supplied and built up by Bike Science of Bristol following a bike fit and an assessment of my fitness, flexibility, riding style and the type of riding I wanted the bike for. It’s fully custom, with geometry, carbon lay up, tube strength and weight to suit me. You can choose your colour from a big range of finishes. Mine is clear lacquered to show the raw carbon mitred wrapped tube to tube construction. The round straight tubes give a classic appearance that appeals to me, although the marketing led aero crowd would think it old fashioned I’ve never seen another Legend out on the road so the exclusivity would appeal to MF. Similar to a Sarto but a smaller more personal operation run by Marco Bertoletti who used to make the original Viner top end frames and also made race bikes for Pantani and Chiapucci. Prices from Bike Science for a carbon frame (Legend also do steel and titanium) start at 3.4K for the HT 7.5 which is a custom main frame and off the shelf rear triangle. I think a Legend is worth considering for a sweet frame that is something different. You can also pick them up direct from Marco at his little factory.

Legend as above sounds like a bloody good idea, trip to Italy to be fitted and/or to collect as a bonus. Sounds like a winner to me.

I'd go through Rohan D (affiliated with Legend) and have him build it up.
