  • This was fascinating. A ‘sprinter’s stage’ with a couple of bastard kickers, that’s turned out to be anything but a sprinter’s stage.

Demare out of it, Sagan looks likely to get back. Not sure where Swift is.

Swift in group 2 with Sagan plus some team mates. May close but DQS pushing at the front.

This could suit Tao, he can sit in the front group and let DQS do the work.
  • 3 groups, place your bets.
DQS riding for the Maglia Rosa to take the bonifications and stage glory.

Should be between the GC group for the stage. Another excellent and chaotic stage in a very unpredictable race.

Not sure what those two Bora riders were doing in the front group you'd think if they waited up after cresting the climb it may have made the difference - it was only 15 seconds with QS only one rider on the front at that point. Ok one got third but ...?

One of them was Majka, only 1:21 down on GC, so fair enough to support him with Konrad.

Those 2 Bora riders as you call them were Majka and Konrad.
Both are within 80 seconds of the Maglia Rosa.
Sagan may be good, but he's not worth burning those two on.

    Ah well in that case!!

I really need to follow the GC more closely - with no real mountain stages I've kind of ignored it and had no idea Majka was that high up.

I hadn't realised Konrad is actually 10 seconds ahead of Majka as well, so not just supporting him.

  • If the last week is weather affected, this will be such an asterisk Giro. The positions and time gaps are broadly similar to what they were at the top of Etna, save for 10 seconds or so in bonuses that Almeida has picked up
