Tadej Poggie (can't spell his surname!! Yet!) takes the win.
Bauhaus put the boxer back in his box in Saudi.

Some good racing in today's queen stage of the Etoile de Besseges.
Ben O'Connor (NTT) takes the mountain finish after team mate Michael Valgren fails to capitalise on his team's effort. Fellow Aussie Simon Clarke (EF) finished second.
New race leader Benoit Cosnefroy (AG2R) takes a 24s lead into tomorrows final (TT) stage
  • Bruynel is a good tester hope he gets it. Not the biggest race but for a 21 year old a good start to the season

Would like to point out how pro MvdP is.

Not only did he show off his bike (and main personal sponsor) on the finish line, he even did it *according to the bikeradar OCP guidelines*

A dream for any agent to have a rider who can win on CX, MTB and Road bikes.

True, but splitting his focus will lead to Remco eventually quite likely having the better road palmares.

Looked as if Alberto Bettiol is going to be flying coming the classics, too. He certainly took off to be first man home from the select GC bunch. Tough climb.

The thing about the Remco/MvdP comparison is that Remco is a whole FIVE years younger.

To put that in perspective, Luke Rowe and Michael Matthews are only four years older than MvdP.

  • Well clearly the race jury didn't have a problem with it.
Bouhanni could have swung over and used all the road..................like he usually does. :D

Anyone know of coverage for the Tour of Colombia? Can’t see anything up.
Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.

There usually is coverage from national tv. It used to be available to all but if memory serves, it was geo'd last year.
However I also recall watching it, so there were feeds.
In any case, I know a man whole will sort it, if at all possible.

Today was a hard watch, it was definitely the sort of stage where if you knew nothing about bike racing then watched that you'd never watch cycling again.

Cosnefroy did enough to take it from a Bettiol and Brunel

Bettiol impressive today and definitely looking good for the classics. Having already won the hardest race in the world (in his own words today on L'Equipe), he is already looking forward to doing well in his own local race next month (Strade Bianche).

He is definitely looking impressively lean. 7/10 Wiggins' tenderloins.

I'm fairly sure Botham never won Flanders.

Bettiol taking his training in February very seriously (the final few seconds is the most interesting bit).

Phew. Lucky the race was in France in February, so we know everybody is clean.
Probably a money saving initiative from Monsieur Lappartient, so the UCI can buy more motor detectors.

It's just MPCC teams and they've said they don't dope, so why bother testing?

I thought testing was less rigorous for riders who are just training anyway >:)

Since it's fitting for the thread:

Would like to point out the coverage and production is already light years ahead of the rest of these "races"
  • Right, so what have we got to look forward to this week?
The weekend sees the opening salvo in the Italian calendar with the 57th Trofeo Laigueglia. Rumour has it that it will be live on Sunday afternoon, as will the 35th Clasica de Almeria.
UK Eurosport only has the Spanish race live on the player but with highlights scheduled for tv in the evening.

Before that we have a number of big guns firing at the Tour of Colombia. The race kicks off with a TTT and this hardly drops a metre below 2000, all race.
The key stages of the race look to be stage 4 and the final stage (6)

The race will be available to watch live from several sources including Tiz and hosts, ESPN Colombia have announced it will be FTA. I hope they do a better job of it than last year.
Live coverage is scheduled for tea time, here in the UK. (5pm)

Starting on Thursday we have the Tour of Provence, which is a very hilly affair and features non other than a finish on the Ventoux, albeit at the chalet.

    Stages 2,3 and 4.

The good news here is, while L'Equipe, who normally show the race live, but this year showing the race as live, it has been picked up elsewhere.

GCN Racing on YouTube will bring live coverage, so with English commentary, each afternoon..
Eurosport have ambient sound coverage on the player. (great news for we Kirby detractors)

The Tour of Colombia is disappointingly flat. More climbing in the Tour of Provence, EF should be able to hang on to their TTT gains through the week.

and what gains! banging along at nearly 35 mph for 18 miles with 4 south americans in a team of 6 and putting 45s into DK-QS

The city centre is at an elevation of 2,820 metres (9,250 ft) above sea level.

    DQS didn't help themselves, though.
Alaphilippe and Jungels completely blew the team apart on the bit of a climb, which resulted in them having to sit up and wait for 2 riders to re-join.
What was noticeable yesterday was the strength of the wind at that altitude.
So much so that the disappointingly flat edition may well be blessed with some fierce crosswinds.............

..........then it could be DQS's turn to make big gains.
