Seconds too early as he was ahead for some time during that sprint

  • I wonder what the overhead looks like.

What a bunch of idiots. They had a 75% chance of a medal and played about fully knowing the other 3 were going to catch them.

    POWER finish from the Dutch

Can't begrudge him that at all, all the skinny little midgets hid behind him and he just swatted them all.

The italian dude had a second when he accidently got a gap as the groups rejoined and everyone looked back. He should have just buried it from there.
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Pidcock just didn’t have the legs in the end.

Batistalla at fault for too much soft pedalling

Gap all but closed with 1k

Yep, wasn't pulling his weight so the others started messing about too.
  • He never had it. Could maybe have waited a second more and come round a bit later.

Pidcock and Foss should have dropped him when the Swiss guy nearly knocked him off and Batistella left a gap.

From the overhead, the Dutch lad was comfortably the strongest. He did most of the work in the chase too. Fair play to him.

Batistella is the cazzo for riding like a moron. No use shouting it after the fact when it's all your fault.

They've just pointed out on French Eurospotrt that he was the Dutch rider who crashed early on, was holding his shoulder and had to chase to get back on to the peloton. Not entirely sure what this means, but I suspect some would call him a baller.
  • Final result being delayed...

    Epic about the dutchie.

Yup. I don’t think there was anything Pidcock could have done differently. Battistella will be the one who looks back at that with regrets.

He got silver. If he'd done his share, maybe he'd have won, or maybe he'd have been 4th from 4.

Final result under investigation. Possibly the dutch rider spent too much time drafting on his case after the crash.

Sprint and run in all look absolutely fine. BBC commentators don't know

    What's the investigation about?
  • Not clear regarding investigation, results still pending.

If he did, they should have pulled him out immediately so that he couldn't affect the race in any way. What if one of the other guys in the chase group had won due to his help in the chase or he'd helped one of his teammates to win?

Pidcock did bloody well to finish the race, let alone contend a sprint finish!

Maybe my photo can help the jury. DQ for excessive glaring?

Possible the commissars didn't see it until someone else raised it.

Incidentally, Pidcock and Kron were the only two of the top nine (possibly ten) without a ride in the World Tour for 2020. Eekhoff (Sunweb), Battistella (NTT), Bissegger (EF Education), Foss (Jumbo Visma) will al be joining Higuita (EF Education) in the World Tour next year. Eighth placed Eenkhorn already rides for Jumbo Visma, No Ta Doctor's man Bjerg in 9th will be riding for UAE. 10th placed Burgaudeau will be riding for Direct Energie who are rumoured to be stepping up to World Tour next year.
  • There's been a DQ
  • Dutchman DQ for pacing.

Jeez. What a heroic effort. Monstrous determination just to finish, let alone do what he did.
  • Eekhoff disqualified. Left the podium area in tears.
