All sheep farming should stop, freeing up the complete waste of land for something better--rewilding. Britain is in the lowest 10% in the world for biodiversity, so (as we're in a climate emergency) it's maybe time we did something radical.
Don't believe Countryfile, sheep are a biodiversity / climate disaster.

You do realise the most likely alternative will be housing and not rewilding?
Somewhat ironic given people were replaced by sheep.
Only 5-6% of the entire UK has been built on. If some of the sheep fields were used for housing, it would be a tiny percentage of that land. i.e still millions of hectares left for rewilding. A majority of sheep farming is in highland areas- perfect for rewilding, cr@p for housing.
    Try Googling Highland clearances.
I think you are confusing the term highland areas (uplands) as the Scottish Highlands. Anyway, parts of the Scottish Highlands are being rewilded. I don't think anyone will move back there to return to crofting.
Not crofting but you could makes fortune from Airbnb etc. Mostly my point was that people did live there prior to sheep farming was introduced.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Do we need a farming thread?

SC could argue that every subsidy should be stopped, RC could tell us how much he hates the countryside (apart from riding through it), Pross could tell us stuff about sheep, and I could give you a description of how to do bovine artificial insemination.

Given we're down to about 2 dozen reg'lars, maybe Cake Stop should have 1 thread.

An Ultegra CS-6500 9s cassette will not fit onto a Dura Ace 7800 hub (due to the 'stepped splines' on the hub).

Here's something that might be useful.
If you have an old laptop (or PC /Mac) that's outdated and running like a drain, you can convert it into a Chromebook using Neverware CloudReady.
    It's free.
Did mine yesterday, it now runs like new.

I admired Frank's forthright views in a world where one has to "stop and think" before every sentence.

Hardly seen any for a long time now, not even squashed dead ones on the road. Used to have a mother and young in our back garden but nothing for some years now.

They reckon less than half a million left in UK.

Yep, I've not seen one for ages and our new place is pretty good for wildlife - foxes, pheasants etc.

I learned a lot about Dutch farming. It is just the same as farming elsewhere, but flatter.

When you have a general power cut in your area it affects phone masts. And 2 bar signal is useless for streaming anything.

Personally I never got the Beatles but wouldn't knock other people's musical tastes as it is a very personal thing.

Always been a Soul man myself but of late been listening to some of my wife's albums, Stray, Fanny, Melanie and a few other bands / artists I had previously not listened to and found myself quite liking them.

I suppose one's ear / taste changes over time.

I think the Beatles are underrated because so much of their early stuff was such trite pish that made you want to write to your MP and complain that anyone could let them loose with valuable audio equipment.

If you took the body of work from about Revolver onwards, and spread it over 15 years rather than 3, they'd be considered one of the greatest bands of the 70s.

And Rubber Soul was only 8 months before Revolver, with Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out and Paperback Writer/Rain in between and not on the albums. (Rain would happily sit on any of the later albums.)

Whatever they were smoking should be available on the NHS. Would provide a huge economic boost.
