I thought I'd read earlier today (before the crash) that he was considered a rising star with GC potential in bigger races.
Not that it matters at this point in time but was there anything significant/strange about the crash or just a terrible accident?
It seems he hit a stack of concrete pipes.
I last saw him on the penultimate "Vive le Velo", of the Tour. It's Belgium's post stage chat show. He was on there with Eddy Planckaert and Hendrik Redant.
Het Nieuwsblad have just posted this image from the show.
It seems he had already lost contact with the group and crashed alone on a straight piece of road.
There was an extra news bulletin yesteday on VTM where a police spokesman said he collided with another rider and fell into a ditch at the side of the road. The ditch contained some concrete sewer pipes he fell with almost his whole torso on top the pipes and went into immediate cardiac arrest. The rest of the story is already known to all of us, sadly.
