Aesthetes look away. Aru warning.
Hugh Carthy is out front, after he got fed up with a break that wasn't working well. Aru trying to jump up to himWarning No formatter is installed for the format0 -
Carthy still in front, a chasing group has Aru and Spilak in it, which is a bummer for Hugh, as that opens it up for a GC day (Spilak virtual podium at the mo)Warning No formatter is installed for the format0

Carthy onto the Gottard....
"Swiss" Spilak in stealth mode again."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Carthy's got a very "Tony Martin" face going on, hasn't he?Warning No formatter is installed for the format0

The bottom lip weighing more than his bike, look?
He has 4 minutes on the peloton, now.

He's got 2 minutes to the chasers, impressive ride.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -
Astana launch Hirt.

Ineos getting a free ride today. Minor placings all attacking each other.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0

Might have spoken too early, Bernal looks pretty isolated now.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0

So Bernal got isolated, Dennis attacked, the two went alone over the top and are now together on the descent.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0

Bernal keeping Dennis in front of him, but looks far more comfortable on the corners - wet with melt run-offWarning No formatter is installed for the format0

Oh and McCarthy is still out alone. Epic ride.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0

McCarthy has 14.5 to go, has 2'25" to Dennis/Bernal, who are the second group. Nobody gives a shït about whatever might be going on for podium spaces, not seen them for ages.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0

Bernal sharing the work. Is that wise?0

Ha didn't notice I'd posted that three times :oops:0

So, Carthy wins after 100 km solo attack.
Dennis leads Bernal home and the biggest gaps occur on the final downhill.

Top, top ride from McCarthy.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0

Proper old school mountain stage win there for Carthy, winning with panache some might say. Very pleased for him. Bernal never looked troubled and looked like he was on a training ride staying with Dennis when he attacked while all the others immediately lost ground. Quite a weak field but Dennis is definitely looking up there amongst the TdF favourites now.
Very good ride by Ben Swift too, one of the last survivors looking after Bernal. Have to admit I forgot he'd moved back to Sky / Ineos.0 -
What a soulless place to finish such a beautiful stage. Great ride by Carthy0

^That's an interesting comment Tim, not something that would occur to me - Bernal was confident about matching Dennis, but safer without others in the mix.0

Makes sense, I guess. Though with others in the mix there would also be others to work with - and others that might get into the bonus seconds.
I don't think it made much difference either way, tbh, so whatever he was comfortable with was fine.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -

I actually really enjoyed that finishing arena. Having all the buses lines up parallel to the finish gave fans great access to the teams during the stage, and great opportunities to see the final KM. Afterwards all the riders and fans were mingling together within minutes of the podium ceremony.
Might have been different if it wasn’t glorious sunshine all day though.
Chapeau to Carthy!0 -
Hugh went for a ride. .... That was pretty old skool in a nu skool style."If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. Crackin' ride from Hugh. He's really matured in the last 6 weeks.0
