Before we declare Dumoulin to be finished, maybe check where Froome was after the first time trial last year, and also how back loaded this route is this year

But tom dumoulin isn't Chris froome. He's the new fabio aru.

Geoghegan Hart not looking especially comfortable on the steepest part.

Fifth fastest though, so none too shabby.

Not surprised that Hatch is in the commentary chair.
Kirby can't use his standard, every race routine of naming half the startlist as potential winners when all the favourites have finished within the first hour of a three hour stage.

Decent ride, 7" slower than Dumoulin.

Also faster (by a second) than Lopez and Nibali on the climb

Shout out for Nishimura - already 4'36" down. Nearly took out another rider too whilst being caught.

Outside the time limit as well. A long way outside.

Mollema's bike change handily demonstrating why the bike change isn't such a smart idea.

(Reverse commentator's curse - watch him take the KoM now...)

Forgot about that. Might as well take your time and get your money's worth then, eh?

    Sivakov in 13:55 +01:01.
26" behind Tao, for anyone watching how the Ineos dual leadership plays out.

Mollema 39" down. Suspect the bike change took up at least ten seconds of that (was 15" down at the intermediate)

The fastest on the climb wasn't Roglic, but Giulio Ciccone, who rocketed up after taking it easy on the flat. Definitely targeting the Mountains Jersey (2nd last year).

It'll be interested how Ineos play this. Sosa waaaay back and Sivakov a bit off as well. they're either all just going for stages or Tao is their GC man. I think top 15 would be a good result if he targets it.

Dunbar could end up their best placed rider by Verona. Total unknown unknowns.

Well he was faster than Zakarin, but probably doesn't climb as well

Joint 32nd. He's going to have to smash the climb.
