Oh, how sad that'd be.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2023/07/01/poll-nadine-dorries-by-election/The Conservatives are on course for the biggest by-election defeat in British history in Mid Bedfordshire, according to a poll that will cause panic among Tory MPs.
A survey by Opinium found that Labour would overturn Nadine Dorries’ 24,664 majority in a seat that has been held by the Tories since 1931.
The defeat would shock many Conservative MPs, raising the prospect that other seats thought to be “safe” may now be at risk.0 -
Dorries would see that as a sign of how popular she was and how disgusted the Tory faithful are of how she’s been treated.0

Backbench tories have reasoned that immigration is the one key issue thebparty now faces. In true to form Tory thinking, they conclude that removing the visa exemption for the care sector is the solution. A spokesperson said that although the care sector will never be desirable, we must encourage Britiah people to enter it.
It beggars belief what a bunch of utterly hateful morons they've recruited. I can only assume that none of them or anyone they give a tiniest pebble of sh!t about are in care or have any responsibility for anyone in care.0 -

The MP i went to school with is very much being lined up for bigger and better things in the party and genuinely, though they were top set English, and As in languages and History ,they were bottom set in maths and science.First.Aspect said:Backbench tories have reasoned that immigration is the one key issue thebparty now faces. So I can entirely believe that the genuine basics of economics etc are beyond plenty of MPs, once you account for lacking intellect and/or education.0 -
What I never understood about Tories though, is the pride they take in picking on the most vulnerable and voiceless in society.
Of all the industry sectors, why single out the care sector?
I mean really, is this driving immigration?
No, it is education, because the same intellectual pigmys don't understand the value of spending money on universities, so they are funding themselves with increased overseas students.
Which only a moron would have an issue with anyway.0 -
in fairness there was always two sides to the immigration debateFirst.Aspect said:What I never understood about Tories though, is the pride they take in picking on the most vulnerable and voiceless in society.

There were the honest bigots who just wanted less/none and then there were the disingenuous bigots who tied it to wage growth and british jobs for british people.
They have stuck with the latter but have opened the floodgates for students and dependants. I assume it is being done to help facilitate trade deals.0 -
It annoys me these MPs aren't asked "how do you expect to solve the problem of a shrinking workforce looking after an increasingly aged population without immigration and a fertility rate of below 2.1?"0
-
But why the care sector?surrey_commuter said:

It is because the Tories are and always have been fairly racist. This at least in part accounts for their enduring electoral success, in the face of manifest incompetence. Also, obviously, explains Brexit.rick_chasey said:It annoys me these MPs aren't asked "how do you expect to solve the problem of a shrinking workforce looking after an increasingly aged population without immigration and a fertility rate of below 2.1?"
Sorry to all you Tories out there, but you know I'm right.0 -
Presumably, on a more political note; Sunak clearly doesn't have a grip on the party when backbenchers can run amok with this stuff0

There's an irony that the main cheerleader is the daughter of parents who came to the country as immigrants in the 1960s yet will now vehemently deny entry to others coming here even if they are fleeing war and persecution with the main basis for her argument seemingly being if we aren't tough to the point of illegality "they will all come here".First.Aspect said:Backbench tories have reasoned that immigration is the one key issue thebparty now faces. I first noticed this with Portillo. His father fled Franco so if we had not let him in then the odious pr1ck would never have been born. To celebrate this fact he dedicated his life to pulling up the drawbridge on future refugees.Pross said:

Meh, by and large these people aren't stupid. Probably not as clever as some of the posters on this forum claim to be, but not actually simple.rjsterry said:

And isn't the anti immigration mania sweeping the Tory party at the moment all a bit, "Some of my best friends are foreign, but..."?
They probably don't think of themselves as intellectually limited xenophobes though.

I'd also go back to looking at what they are doing not what they are saying. Immigration has tripled since their pledge to lower it, ergo they're not really interested in lowering it at all. It's all a performance brought on by spending too much time looking at tweets from nonentities called @244356345Bulldog🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧.
Historically, both Labour and Conservatives have been anti-immigration; definitely not just a Tory thing.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Having said that, maybe this is the start of split of the Tories into two separate parties... the more sensible mainstream lot (generally the 'Remain' wing), and the UKIP-not-lite headbangers who seem to have grabbed the steering wheel at the moment.0

I see the 'first safe country' w***ers are having a resurgence. I guess not accepting your responsibilities is absolutely bang on New Conservative brand.

The loon being interviewed here seems to be stuck on that loop, not directly answering questions at all, and unable to admit that it''s a ploy not to take any refugees at all.
