Yates 3s down on Senor Hairplugs at 10km
That's very good. Puts him a long way ahead of Quintana and Lopez

Yates pegging Valverde, just 3s down.

Hope Yates doesn’t pay for early pace later.

Lopez 9s worse than Quintana, I guess that was expected.

Yeah. Don't know what happened in that second section.
    So, Yates gains 7 seconds.
    Cruisewijk onto the podium.
A very good ride by Mas.
    The Colombian climbers uniformly crap.

Yates lost time relatively on the final section. Wonder if he was suffering or deliberately dialled it back bearing in mind what happened on the two stages that followed the final TT in May?

Good point, what is it about the Colombians? I guess Mas is the future star

Lopez didn't even bother wearing shoe covers.

Interesting comment by Yates on the ITV highlights that he expects Valverde to put a big chunk into him today. Either gamesmanship or one of Yates or Valverde has a day which didn't meet Yates's expectations.

I doubt Yates expected honestly to beat Valverde in that - surely not. Also not really sure why they would bother bluffing for a TT as it's not like it's tactical.

Interested to see if there's a post stage interview (I'm on a 10 mins delay)

Winning the Vuelta again and/or world's would cap off a sensational career!

If Yates wasn't bluffing, then the message out there is that Yates thinks Valverde had a very bad day.

Nice to see a new, young Spaniard breaking through. I do wonder if he's at the right team to be a GT contender when the big boys are playing. I wonder if Movistar have an eye on him?
  • Kudos to Dennis, 50 seconds over everyone else on that length of TT is pretty spectacular
