Rider attacks, everyone else watches AGAIN.

2018 has been pretty turd so far.

It's more understandable in a stage race, it was only really Costa that messed up .

Bernal could've taken the lead with bonus seconds. There was still a stage up for grabs as well.

I agree with gsk82, if the Giro's like this I will be peed off

To be fair, this wasn't like the other times. Fuglsang came up to the group and rode straight past them. It would have caught them all by surprise a bit.

Of course, but he could also have chased hard then got mugged by the others. He tried hard to get rid of Roglic on the climb so I doubt he'd be more successful on the flat.

He's a climber - how on earth is he going to get rid of a time triallist on the flat, or beat a finisher like Costa in a sprint?

Second place on GC and a stage win in a race like Romandie in your first year at WT level is impressive enough.

Exactly. Philippe York expected a group of no more than 8 at the end and couldn't see how Sky could break Roglic. Even if Bernal had got a gap in the climb there was too far to the finish. The lads been fantastic to be fair.

I thought for a second that Bernal was going for the bonus seconds.
    PTP disaster!

Yeah, but imagine being the guy who switched his GC pick from Roglic to Thomas as he wasn’t sure if Roglic would up for it.

It’s a shame Kruijswijk and Roglic aren’t on startlist for the Giro - the former has unfinished business after his lie down in the snow whilst in pink in 2016; the latter will cause major worries on any GC for the next few years, I suspect. He looks bomb-proof over a week, anyway.

    Absolutely.

    I think, however, it's a publicity thing.

The Dutch are BONKERS about the Tour. I think Kruiswijk's attempt that the Tour in 2016 really helped get the Dutch behind it as a race. However, it was also a race that a Dutchman can could compete in without the heavy heavy pressure that comes with the Tour. Just ask Gesink.

That’s obviously all changed with Dumolin. He’s now created a lot of media interest in the Giro, and that will follow him into the 2018 Giro. Jos van Emden’s result on the final day, alongside memories of Kruiswijk in 2016 has helped cement an idea that the Giro could be great for the Dutch.

So, why go to the Giro where you’ll get similar pressure, but be outshone by Dumolin? Why not just go to the Tour, get the full exposure, and, hopefully, have the #1 rider who’s either Dutch or on a Dutch team?
