He's a climber - how on earth is he going to get rid of a time triallist on the flat, or beat a finisher like Costa in a sprint?
Second place on GC and a stage win in a race like Romandie in your first year at WT level is impressive enough.0 -

Exactly. Philippe York expected a group of no more than 8 at the end and couldn't see how Sky could break Roglic. Even if Bernal had got a gap in the climb there was too far to the finish. The lads been fantastic to be fair.0 -
I thought for a second that Bernal was going for the bonus seconds.

Who’d have thought. World tour GC.0 -
Absolutely.
I think, however, it's a publicity thing.
The Dutch are BONKERS about the Tour. I think Kruiswijk's attempt that the Tour in 2016 really helped get the Dutch behind it as a race. However, it was also a race that a Dutchman can could compete in without the heavy heavy pressure that comes with the Tour. Just ask Gesink.
That’s obviously all changed with Dumolin. He’s now created a lot of media interest in the Giro, and that will follow him into the 2018 Giro. Jos van Emden’s result on the final day, alongside memories of Kruiswijk in 2016 has helped cement an idea that the Giro could be great for the Dutch.
So, why go to the Giro where you’ll get similar pressure, but be outshone by Dumolin? Why not just go to the Tour, get the full exposure, and, hopefully, have the #1 rider who’s either Dutch or on a Dutch team?0 -
