I doubt there's a whole lot of revenue in showing cycling, figure skating, European basketball (selection if what's on right now) and all the other niche sports they cover. They have to pay for the rights to show them too. I haven't researched it but it doesn't strike me as a very profitable market.

Hence the poor app, sales team and commentary team (*cough* Carlton *cough*). If it was that easy, more races would be bought by mainstream channels.

However £2.50 a month (which is as near as makes no difference free as far as I'm concerned) to be able to watch pretty much all WT races is a pretty good deal.

Think a lot of rights are done through the EBU. I'll have to look it up later when I get a bit more time

Sure, I can't imagine there's a lot of money in the rights for some of these sports so that makes sense.

I actually did do a bit more research and got some conflicting numbers, Eurosports revenue for 2015 (last year where clear numbers were on page 1 of the Google search...) seems to be about $350m with an operating profit about 18%. Which doesn't sound all that bad but when you compare to other TV sports providers (e.g., BT) it is mush less.

Last years £20 annual subscription ran out with no chance to renew it, Im currently on the £6.99 iTunes monthly deal which I think on one hand is pretty dear, but then again, the ability to watch so much racing and then be able to switch it off in September (Most of the ToB, Vuelta and Worlds are on terrestial TV) makes it bearable.

I fritter away much more than that on coffee etc ...

If you want to pay monthly, get it through amazon. 4.99 a month there.

I took it up last year, for £29-99, when Discovery wouldn't play ball with Sky.
No notification or interest in keeping my business, when the time came.
Just a very belated survey asking why I had finished. I told them what I used the player for (the silent cycling bits) and that it was currently way too expensive to take out on top of other subscriptions.
Thought that might stir them into making some kind of offer, a la Sky, but weeks later and nada.
I might keep an eye out for offers, but really their sales team need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Same, even to the survey feedback.

Likewise, nothing to remind me my year was up, just the survey afterwards, and no follow up to that. :?

Yep decent although after a couple of weeks I lost the ability to watch anything live on it, no help or contact sections on Amazon about the channels which was irritating. Watch it enough that I just resorted to paying the 30 quid for a year on ES player instead

Is E3 on live today? There is an E3 broadcast at 3pm, but Eurosport doesn't state whether its live or a rerun of 2017 on the app. 90mins seems a little short to be live coverage.

Sporza are once again the hosts.
Their live coverage starts at 1-15pmGMT through to 5pm.
No E3 live coverage anywhere on Eurosport, due to Catalunya.
Mmm, which to watch for me?
The best half of E3 with the melodious Sporza commentators, or and hour in Spain, with the pain?
    No brainer!

Steephill is always worth a punt if it’s not on Eurosport. I watched it in Dutch till ES started.

Very interesting to see the latest on my epg.
Looks as if they have picked up the live coverage of the GP Miguel Indurain from etb, on Saturday.
A nice little aperitif for the big one on Sunday.
That is the other nice bit of news.
Looks as if Sporza have changed their usual format from showing an hour or so of the signing on and the first few kms, then disappearing for a couple of hours, for whole race coverage.
Eurosport it seems, are live from 9-15pm, right through to the end. :D

Thats right you can see all the early attempts to get away and fiorst rate domestiques sitting on the front for mile after mile towing 150 people along. Its good insight but total couch potato stuff.

    You too?

Took me two weeks of complaining to Amazon but it's finally up and running again. And they refunded me three months' worth of subs.

Think I'm going to go with the current £29.99 annual pass. I always had Eurosport on my Sky package but the wife decided to ditch one of our bundles that was mainly kids programmes and documentaries that we didn't watch and for some odd reason ES was part of that. It isn't worth getting it back for just ES though.

Ive discovered if you have the ES player on an ipad or iphone you can flick it to your TV and watch it no that. Big benfit is you can then watch all the on demand video and catch ups that you cant on sky :)

Yeah, I was thinking of getting a Firestick or similar to try to do that (unless there's a Smart TV app I can use to cut out the middle man?).

    Chromecast through my tv.

Although I now mainly use my PS4 instead which was a lovely Christmas present from Mrs Mcstuff.

Missed the £1.99 deal. But was pleasantly surprised to find that there is a Eurosport Player app that was downloadable onto my new Samsung TV. So can now watch it on the big screen rather than relying on the iPad.
Have been subscribing for a few years now and it has definitely improved a lot with the latest version.

If you have an Apple TV there's a native app - you don't need to throw the stream up from another device. The stream looks pretty good (better than SD), but I seem to remember reading it's 720P rather than full HD.

I traded my old one in at CEX and got a second hand newer one from them. Took a lot of the sting out of it.

The newy-newest Apple TV has 4K support, but is otherwise pretty much the same as the previous version (4th Gen). If you don't have a 4K TV and don't intend to get one in the short to medium term then go for the 4th Gen model as it's cheaper.
