ok 3 courses, using the same 'roads' in different combinations

you can ride Watopia and ride several different routes without doing same roads different ways.

I counted 13 routes on Watopia and thats before we get to the other maps.

Richmond is my least favourite and I think thats reflected in the app as that appears pretty rarely.

Can you pay monthly so can cancel during summer when not using it?

I pay monthly and can cancel at anytime (well I believe I can). Just checked and my price is locked in at £8.

For me its worth it, I follow the plans/workouts and build my own and am finding it works really well. Its the only platform I have used where I have managed to turbo for 2hrs so feel it does something right.

I don't get the racing or group rides stuff.....but that's because I just get dropped

heh same here. I've not managed to find a group ride yet where I'm not riding on the limit for 5-10 mins then get dropped, same every time. Nothing like Zwift to make you realise that you're slow!

Surely my powermeter must be under reading. My legs say Im cycling hard, Zwift says Im shite.

I agree that most of Richmond seems a long straight slog.

Zwift has 13 routes o watopia alone and you can make extra turns on those anyway so yes you're wrong.

There's a seven day free trial anyway so you can look for yourself.

Yes there's around a hundred virtual kilometres of roads on Watopia alone including flat stuff, punchy climbs, longer climbs (not Alpine long) and rolling terrain. London and Richmond are more specialised courses that some people find boring - I'm not a Richmond fan.

Plus there's an entirely new map being released early next year! :D

Grab the free trial and dive in. Make your own mind up. It's not for everyone, but I find the interactive side of racing, group rides, workouts and generally free riding much more immersive than other programs out there.

Your correct that they have different courses on different days. Heres the schedule
    https://zwiftblog.com/schedule/

However, after you've done it once, the hack to ride whatever course you want is quite an easy thing to do before you open Zwift. Ive no idea why you would change course halfway through a ride?

There's two things. The 'world' which is on a calendar rotation and officially can't be changed - although lots of people use the world tag.

Second there is the course which is the pre-selected route around the virtual word you choose when you log in. This does require you to log out and log in again to change - however - it's perfectly possible to choose your own route in the game using the arrow keys on the keyboard or the mobile link app - some people seem unable to do this for some reason, I do wonder how they manage road junctions in real life.

    It looks quite dull

I was tempted to hack the world and ride it yesterday .... but decided that in a couple of months I will be bored of London again, so why bring that boredom forward by 2 days .... by waiting till Tuesday I have got 2 more days before my will to live ends :D

What makes an "interesting" course on Zwift?

What makes an "interesting" course on Zwift?

    For me -

    (1) more varied scenery ie Watopia mountain, coming out of the snow shelter on the road, sharp ramps and drops a precipice a bridge. compared to Box/Leith with is mostly, simple grey road with plain greens of field and tree, not much in the way of "features"

    (2) more varied terrain ie Watopia, the Esses, continual and dramatic changes in direction and elevation compared to London with few bends and a constant to easy changing elevation

Personally indoor training will always be a bore compared to going outside, there just isn't the same level of stimulation sat indoors watching a TV .... so to make it interesting the Image on that TV needs to be far more extreme than real life in order to make up for the other lack of sensory information. Zwift needs to be more unreal to make it better .. hence people preferring Watopia than Richmond and London

All personal of course ... you might like it

EDIT: .... oh and a terrain that encourages interaction with other riders ..... for some reason I can ride in London and not get into any spur of the moment races or comradery .... but 99% of the time riding Watopia I always end up working with or against another rider despite any attempts of that day

London's always freaks me out with blokes in business attire and wearing shorts. Is that a thing down there now ?

    That's more a Hamilton thing.

London is realistic in the way people barge through gaps that aren't there and make turns right in front of you without indicating.

You need to race more and then you wouldn't worry about the scenery!
  • We've barely got decent enough winter weather in my part of the US that I can't justify Zwift unless I was a serious Cat 2 or faster racer boy.

Given I'm just Cat 5 or 4 pack-fodder, not for me.

They need to pair up with Epic Gaming from the US on their scenery and networking. Or Epic Gaming could just buy them out and get it done right with plenty of variety. Then you could integrate Navy Seal or James Bond style missions into your virtual cycling workout!

    Bing!
