  • Ta fella, looking forward to trying it out!

Have since got a saddle on it. Eyeing up Campag stuff for it now :D
  • Hello All,

I've managed to pick up a crank for this bike. link >>>> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Campagnolo-C ... 2749.l2649

i would like to know what type of campag components will be compatible with this? Not necessarily what is recommended but anything that would be compatible would be great.

    Thanks,
  • Anyone?

A bit late to the party, sorry.

You could run that chainset with anything 10sp or 11sp, as far as I'm aware.

  • That's great thanks, I'm a bit confused by the bottom bracket situation, I know it's an italian thread, but I have options of both 102mm and 111mm, where do I get that measurement from? is it basically where the bottom bracket sits in the frame?

    Thanks

ooooh - very nice indeed. All black finishing kit and deep rims on that will make the fame colours pop. Sweet as.

Yup - chainset will work with anything. Also believe that you are correct with b/b assumption.

  • Chorus uses 102mm AFAIK.
  • Thanks for the responses guys: I might go to the local bike shop and buy a bottom bracket there as I can return it easier if it’s wrong.

I’ve noticed a campag tool to tighten the end cups is there a special tool I need to do the bottom bracket as well?

I'm a little confused, Kelvin. When you refer to "end cups", what do you mean? And what type of bottom bracket are you fitting?

i'd get them to fit it as well if I were you - probably cost a tenner.

The ultratorque caps? Or do I not need them? I’m totally confused :)

Got Ultra Torque cups on order, recently got the campagnolo tools to tighten the cups and for tightening the crankset.

Received in the post chorus carbon shifters, selle italia saddle and Most carbon handlebars :D

    I had a 2009 FP3 which was virtually the same, just with a 3k weave. Handled like an absolute dream. Here is a pic;

    image.jpg

That had 10sp mix of Record and Chorus with Centaur cassette (so cheap and lasted ages!) the chainset was Most branded which had a MegaExo bottom bracket, obviously Italian threaded.

On that not, it may be worth having the threads on your BB re-cut just to clean them up before installing your new cups. Not many shops hold the Italian threaded taps these days...

    Looks fantastic!

I've gone with 11 speed Chorus shifters, and so far athena front and rear mech, as long as I stick to 11 speed then all should be okay? And okay, great, thanks for the tip. I'll see if my local bike shop can re cut it for me.

I know - I can't wait to get it built up either - really excited !!!!
  • Small update,

Got the cups and fitted them to the frame all okay. On fitting the crankset I noticed it wouldn't spin freely, quite tight and notchy, so I untightened it and retightened it to its lowest torque setting (42nm) and noticed it was still the same. So I tookit off again and felt the bearings, so rough so I purchased a new bearing set and will get the old ones taken off and put the new ones on :)
  • So guys,

Hope everyone had a good Christmas :)

What's your opinions on bar tape? what's a good manufacturer to go for? Is it worth doing it yourself? or LBS.

Also, looking at Fulcrum Racing Quattro wheels, I have been browsing Carbon wheels, but I don't think I do enough cycling to justify that sort of price. And if I do I can always swap the wheels over to my Bianchi.

Bar tape choice is subjective. I would go for gloss white by Fizik, but you might totally disagree!

Have a go at wrapping yourself, the gloss Fizik is actually quite forgiving.

Fulcrum Quattros are fine wheels. A little heavy, but quite aero and they spin up pretty well. For the price point. I have some on my winter bike.

    How about some Campagnolo Bullets?

I use black stuff from Planet X for a few quid - bought one roll as an experiment, really really surprised at how good it is (really comfy, easy to fit, stretchy, lasts ages).

I’ll post the item number for it later.

Buy the coolest aero wheels you can afford - anything else will be waste on that and you’ll only regret it if you don’t. Some plain black Carbonzone 60mm tubs will look lovely, be nice and light and not cost much.

  • Thanks for the suggestions guys I’ll look into..

In the meantime I have come across a problem. My brother bought me campag Skeleton brakes and on trying to fit them the actual mounting bolt is too small for the front fork being that it’s a bit thicker than aluminium forks. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you mean the bolt that comes out of the back of the brake then you screw the long barrel but through the back of the fork onto it?

Just get a longer barrel nut.

Pennies at an LBS or off the net.

    Actually - no.

It means the bike is knackered and will give you dead disease so you should give it to me to dispose of safely.

Yeah, that's the one, I have since thought about a longer nut, so i will go to my LBS and see what they have, I hope they have one that is narrower than what I got with the campag brakes as it get's narrower towards the centre of the fork.

Thanks for the responses so far guys, learning a lot!
  • Sussed it out, there was a little washer that was inside from the previous caliper I presume, which wasn't letting the nut meet the bolt.

Need a longer nut for the rear caliper however so I'll go to the LBS and get one

Not necessarily. It depends what generation shifters you have. If post 2015, they won't work with Athena rear mechs. If pre 2015, they will work fine but not perfectly as the spring tension is slightly different for an ultrashift rear mech (like Chorus) as opposed to a powershift one (like Athena). However, this is the combination I use on one of my bikes and I'm happy with it.

My chorus shifters are 2015 onwards as per the listing and the Athena rear mech was new from Wiggle, so that won’t work? What’s the reason for it not to work? Thank
