Carbon is more winter friendly than metal, anyway

    'Tis true.

Tried to source an NOS 1" record headset for 'threadless fork' as it used to be.
Second hand one's selling for £100+.
So replaced the bearings in the races and it will have to do for the time being.

I have the same predicament. Looks like Campag have stopped producing them.
Will see how long the races last but looking increasingly like non Italian replacements in the long term. 😢
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

    Thanks, but I need threadless.
Just thinking though, would the races and bearings be identical? 🤔

I knew you wanted threadless but yes, I was considering using the races and bearings from it.

    I'll let you know

I did that years ago, only part that was different was the top cap.

Missed the boat on that sale but thanks for the info for future reference.
Mine is currently stripped down but I've not thoroughly inspected the races yet.
    Bearings themselves are fairly cheap.

I was looking at used Record headsets (threaded) on the Bay of Shite for the old Italian frame and some of them were asking stupid money and didn't have clear pictures of the bearing surfaces. Can you imagine paying £100 for a used headset that is pitted and feels rough with new bearings.
I stuck with the Tange one that I had.

Just FYI as I looked last night. £51.55 delivered new.

Ooh thanks, I just went out to the garage, found the forks, found my thread gauge and realised I didn't have my reading glasses. Found the one that fitted and brought the thread gauge back in to confirm it is indeed 24tpi.
I hadn't looked for some time as the frame got bent in May. But if the insurance coughs it will be fixed better than new. If not at least I have a headset.

Nice! Need to sort out the cages though. 😉
My Colnago would currently fit in a family suitcase. A bit of a faff but would save a fortune. 🤣

  • Agree on cages.

What's the deal with the bars - why do the drops not run parallel to the ground?

Do I finally go and get it re-sprayed and restore it to it's former glory? There's also a few bits to sort out: threaded downtube mounts and remnants of bottle cage bolts in the holes which means that I had to shorten 4 bolts and screw them in gently as well as deploying a couple of cable ties. A bit ignominious for such a gem.

But... when I get it back, all pristine, I cannot possibly return it to it's former job as a winter bike, replete with crud catchers. So that means N=1 which equals 4. Yet, it's such a lovely ride. It's a perfect winter bike.

So if I get a cf frame off flea bay, what's out there that has good tyre clearance so that the eternal mud guard conundrum isn't an issue and what's going to give me that velvet ride*?

    *Apart from Heida Reed.

    I just googled Heida Reed,

    Thank you.

    That is all

They are old school Cinelli Criterium bars. I hardly spend any time on them.

    I like the cages.

You can solve mismatched cages by removing one of them.

Or I can just be happy.

All keen cyclists should have an overgrown garden.
