So the only outstanding issue is the Points Jersey.

The situation is Froome has a 26 point lead over Trentin (I'm discounting Nibali who is only 25 points behind Froome)

There are 25 points for the stage win and 4,2,1 at the bonus sprint. Points for the stage go down to 15th place.

More likely QS make sure there isn't a break at the sprint point.

And on that subject, It clearly states in the stage communique that the cut off for a cat 5 stage is 12%, which in yesterday's case was 25'-23".
    (see page 47)

    Yet nobody got any penalty.

They might have extended it though. Adam Hansen said that they had extended the limit for stage 15 a few days before after intention by the rider's union. And that was a similar stage to yesterday

Control the race and the final sprint?

It's a short race. Or just let a two man break go. Trentin only needs one point at the sprint.

Is there any desire for anyone to nick the intermediate sprint points off Trentin (assuming he's at the head of the race)? They're just going to let him have them I'd have thought.

Who knows. Does Froome even care about the jersey? If he'd beaten Poels yesterday it would be his by now.

They can extend it...but it has to happen prior to the stage.

27 riders missed it, and although the rules allow extension of the limit, it is "only in exceptional, unforeseeable cases of force majeure".

Losing the Green jersey favourite, the Polka dot jersey leader, and the majority of those who will meaningfully sprint today would be unfortunate, but is not exceptional and unforeseeable.

Did something serious happen to impede the later finishers, or did they just hope no-one would notice and decide that it was not worth the hassle?

I find it rather bizarre tbh.

    Madrid Challenge

    1. D'Hoore (@WiggleHigh5)
    2. Rivera (@TeamSunweb)
    3. Fournier (@FDJ_NAqui_Fut)

lots of punctures and mechanicals on that Madrid finishing circuit, might be of some concern

Sure his last race was in Paris.

  • Sky kit looks quite pleasant with red bits on.
  • What is the point of this last stage? It's the same with tdf... does ma nut in!!!

Well, this one at least will decide a jersey.
  • Surprised that Sky are seemingly giving it go by upping the pace
  • Sky sending out attacks to defend the points jersey :-D Making QS work for it!

  • Trentin needs the stage win + points in the intermediate.
