That is one hell of a well timed ride, missed the catch to Alaphilippe with cams going.
  • I look forward to the conspiracy theory people asking for proof that he was actually in the whole race!

    Different day, same Sagan.

I assume everyone will complaining how boring it is that the same rider wins three years in row or does that just happen in July?

In his BBC interview Swift thanked Dibben and Doull for towing him back into the race after a badly timed mechanical and bike change, so maybe let's not criticise riders for dropping out without knowing all the facts

Thought it was a very good race, attritional as races of that length are which I guess is why it can appear less explosive than the other races. I thought Moscon and Alaphillipe would stay away with maybe Kiri joining them as the group seemed to stall everytime it looked like the chase was on. Sagan has developed a real racing brain, 3 or 4 years ago he would have been at the front and the others would be making him work whereas today he seemed to bluff everyone. A bad day for the Belgies again after they looked to have the tactics sorted.

People scoffed on here when I suggested Swift as an outside chance but he again showed his ability to be right up there in a reduced sprint at the end of a long, tough race.

Yeah Swift would definitely generally take it if it weren't for about 25 other riders. :P

Good lunge for honours by Sagan.
  • I enjoyed that, a lot. It was very nicely balanced as to whether it would be won from a break/solo or reduced bunch sprint.
Thought Swift managed to get boxed in again, but in the sprint he looked like he was going backward. Decent result anyway.

Looking at the medal table - why are Sunweb Men German and Sunweb Women Dutch?
    Twitter: @RichN95
  • The men's team was registered in the Netherlands until 2015 then changed to Germany but the women didn't.

Just caught the last 20km. Sagan's the absolute boIIocks, isn't he?

Nice ride by Ben Swift too.

Feel sorry for Norwegian TV having a tech breakdown at that point. Gutting for them.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.
  • The team got Alpecin in 2015 when became their main sponsor. That charged the reg to Germany, and in 2017 Alpecin was replaced by Sunweb who kept the German reg.

The difference is that this race was exciting, and unpredictable.

Well done Peter Sagan, and also for a great post race interview.
