Contador looked to set off a fraction before the countdown had finished.

Did that mean you had to choose between Channel 4 and Eurosport?
    So did Lopez.

If only there were some arrows there to warn him there was a bend coming up.

Looks like he got a pedal strike and lifted the back wheel.

Hit the gas just as he thought "ah, it's even tighter than I thought."

Celebrating too early or is there something I'm missing?

Contador is flying! He sets 15:18 at the first intermediate pint after 13km. That's the fastest time so far!

Intermediate pint - back to the 90's?
Old, fat and that's just the bike.

    Ohh...Okay.
    Orange it was. :D

Contador really getting a great moto slipstream. Annoying..

Wonder how they'd get on with intermediate pints (surely cycling would insist on 500ml to keep it metric?) every 15 minutes. They'd all be falling off like Bardet.

As usual, live timing on http://racecenter.lavuelta.es/#/stageprofile shot to pieces, stuck with no updates since before Adam Yates set off (for me at least anyway!).

Same here but this one's working :

  • Kelderman up by 18 seconds.
    Froome slow at the mo.
Chaves a full minute slower than Bertie.

Contador was once upon a time the best 3rd week TTer around (with a little moto drafting), so he ought to still be alright today.

Don't think there was a pedal strike, rather simply his centre of gravity changed (and he jerked the bike a little) when he decided to start pedalling again - too soon considering his angle, a novice's mistake

He rode a decent one in the tour this year. His engine seems fine. Tank less so.

Kirby notes that Contador's outriders are having difficulty keeping ahead of him.
The others don't seem to have the same.....................problem.

Froome starting to reel Kelderman in.

  • Froome pacing it far better than everyone else, as usual
  • According to GPS, Froome is closing the gap to Kelderman, only 10s
Also, Contador and Guardia Civil doing an amazing job! Ridiculous!
  • Bertie sat up on the hooks and dying on his ar*e

Nibbles doesn't look to have a moto in front to tow him, whereas Contador and Wilco have two to tow them.......

Carlton totally failing to recognise the actual timing point and thinking Kelderman had taken 1.5 mins out of Ludvigsson.
  • Keldermerckx almost half a minute quicker than Contador, but Froome is now ahead on the GPS.
