It might be a joke, but then you should read the articles websites are posting around Europe... there is no joke there... people will think he's going to do just that.
As I said, he should cut the umbilical cord and find something to doleft the forum March 20230 -
He should get some pictures of himself practicing MMA and drop a few hints he might fight professionally see if they run with that.
To be fair it might have been interesting had Magnus Backstedt had a real go at rowing on his retirement rather than taking up triathlon. If Wiggins is struggling for something to fill his time he could always take up posting on here.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -

So in 2008 Helen Glover applied for sporting Giants and made 2012. She didn't start rowing until she was 22.
I would argue Wiggins is perfect for the challenge as he has experience of competition under extreme pressure.

I don't think anyone in fight sport would ever believe something that ridiculous could happen. Besides, they're all too excited by the upcoming Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight to notice what some old cyclist says.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -
Pff, rowing at the indoor champs is no big deal. I did BIRC in 2004. 7:01 for the 2k though, so I wasn't fast!

No idea, Richard
For my own part, I haven't been amused with him for some months now
However that doesn't stop me recognising when he's coming out with randoms, and finding it incredible that some people treat it like it's been handed down on tablets of stone0 -

Bond was born in Dunedin. He was a member of the gold medal-winning coxless fours at the 2007 World Rowing Championships. He was a member of the men's coxless four which won the B final at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Outside of rowing, Bond is also a keen cyclist. In 2009, he raced at elite level in New Zealand alongside fellow Olympian Sam Bewley, competing in the six-day Tour of Southland for the Zookeepers-Cycle Surgery team. The team's Heath Blackgrove won the 2009 event. Bond competed in the 2016 Tour of Southland. In November 2016, he announced that he would take a break from rowing in 2017, and concentrate on cycling instead.0 -

The much maligned Dan Staite was an indoor rower for a while back in the early/mid 2000s. He was round about the 6:20 mark for 2k and set records (British, if not world) for the over 30s in the 5k, as a lightweight, which is <=75kg.
The on-water lightweights have to weigh in at <=72.5kg, and the top exponents "indoors" are close to 6 minutes for 2k, though there are plenty of internationals slower than 6:05.
Given the vastly superior physiology enjoyed by Sir Brad over Dan Staite, a very fast 2k indoors (e.g. <6:10) does not seem too much of stretch of credibility.
On-water, who knows? As the reference to Helen Glover shows, it's possible to get to international standard very quickly if you've got the physiology. IIRC she was in the GB pair in the 2010 world champs, 2 years after first getting into a boat. And there are enough stories of Boat Race blues having only taken up the sport as undergraduates to demonstrate that going from no rowing experience to very good technique in circa 2 years is perfectly possible.
Whether Sir Brad would be one of the fast learners is another matter. Whilst rowing technique is nowhere near as complex as swimming technique, not everyone has the requisite skills, just like some cyclists are good downhill and others are cr*p despite a lot of practice.
If he was 10 years younger and aiming to be a lightweight, I'd think it was a realistic possibility. But age won't do him any favours and aiming to bulk up to 100kg seems like an act of madness. Cracknell himself is taller than Sir Brad and "only" 90-95kg in his rowing prime.
I doubt any existing rowers would be too perturbed if this is genuine. The trials process is open to anyone, transparent and very objective. Load of people fall by the wayside early on and I suspect he'd be one of them!
For the record, I have a sub 6:40 2k to my credit as a lightweight, though actually getting my 6'1'' frame to weigh that little was the real challenge!0 -
im 6`4 and rowed lightweight in my 20`s . didn`t even need to diet . oh happy days :?0

As a junior I used to take an inflatable dinghy on holiday. I would row out a hundred foot and never needed to be rescued!
I could still fit in now but I watched Kon-Tiki last night which put me off, so will stick with the bike.0 -

Ha, mine still won't allow me to get a motorbike. I had go in a rowing boat a week ago, loved it. I might get a kayak though to see the wildlife on the move and not have to check my course.0

I'll bet Hamish could do a mean IP, though.0 -
Can do a decent time trial too. Got a podium in the nationals this year... Might be able to sneak in to the New Zealand side if he continues improving on that front.0

He was a guest at the Maratona on Sunday. Not sure what he was like the rest of the weekend, but he gave a monosyllabic interview at the start. Came across really badly.0

Sir Brad made his competitive indoor rowing debut at the weekend. It was a decent enough outing, but somewhat short of the standard required to make any of the existing national squad members fear for their seat.

Not sure if the Bjorn Borg headband really adds much...0 -
