Great stage! Happy that Pinot got the win. Advantage Tom D with the TT to come? Although he looked smoked across the line

Dumoulin off the podium according to the Dutch comms.

Quintana could be off the podium after the TT tomorrow though. Things are that close

Dumoulin still favourite. Magnificent effort to keep within a minute.

Mollema slowed up so Tom D could get the same time.
    Pathetic.
    Pinot chapeau.

    He wants his free holiday.

The organisers couldn't have asked for a better climax.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

Yeah this is much better than a pink parade isn't it. If Tom pulls it off, it will be deserved.

I would have described it as a smart move myself. Cost Mollema nothing but helps out his compatriot. I think Tom owes more of a debt to Jungels after all te work he did.

Not being on the podium going into the last stage but winning the race would put Dumoulin in a select group of winners I'd have thought.

Would have been a lot more than 53 seconds with smarter racing. Tom D got away with a lot less damage than he deserved today.

    So tomorrow it will be:
    1) Tom Dumoulin
    2) Tibaut Pinot or Nibali
    3) Nibali or Tibaut Pinot
    4) Russian dope cheat. :P
    5) Colombia's third best rider

This. Tom D is liked in the peleton and that matters at times like this. It's a solo sport but every rider needs allies from time to time.

    Odd.
Interview with JAF, almost the first thing Tom D does is to thank Mollema and Yates for their help, but not Bob Jungels, who did the lion's share.

I'm sure I heard him thank Jungels along with the others?

I hope Tom D pumps Quintana and nibs tomorrow. Could live with a peanut win. That crap pink skin suit has got to cost 20s + for a start. Now if only if they could do a staged time handicapped start under non drafting ironman rules or similar. The look of Quintana's face as the flying dutch man thundered past would be one for the ages.

To answer my own question about the wind, with the limited tools at my disposal (mainly yr.no and giroditalia.it), it looks like there will be something between no wind and a gentle three-quarters headwind for most of the course, for most of the riders.

Which pretty much seals this for Tom D, barring a crash or bad mechanical.

Just watched it because I didn't catch it live.

    That. Was. Tense.

Whatever the result I think we can all agree that the organisers have done a great job with the route. The perfect mix of long stages, short stages, medium mountain stages, and hard mountain stages, all culminating in a final TT in which four riders have a credible chance of winning.
