It's not just position. It's stock lines. Rapha took an awful long time to get to the number of items they now sell. Vulpine seemed to have masses of things. That requires stock and dilutes demands for certain items.

arguably there are still too many...

I'm increasingly bamboozled by the choice.

Of retailers? I'll be honest, I had no idea. When I started to review and kept following people on Instagram etc, they just kept coming. And coming. And that's just UK stuff. Aus have loads, many more in Europe. IF you have a global presence you do forget just how massive a market it is. If you're really only UK, there are too many.

This. So manycompanies selling 90 quid+ jerseys. The market cant be that big for them, most peoplei see are in the likes of altura.

I think at the time they started it was probably alright, with "cycling becoming the new golf". Now the boom has ended I think most people with £££'s have moved on or stick with the likes of Rapha/Assos.

Once you have kit - its not like you need to constantly buy it again. I have far more kit than realistically I'll ever need and I probably only buy a couple of things per year now.

I always struggle to understand how companies like Le Col keep going?!

£180 for bibs, £180 for a jacket - how many people out there can afford to buy their kit, and choose to? I'd think it's a pretty niche market, especially competing with established brands.

Or is there a stupid mark up, meaning they only have to sell a few items?

Only cycling t-shirts I've ever bought that were to short to wear, and I'm not tall. Decent quality but sizing was totally off.

Weird - my Vulpine purchase was so tight on the arms that you need to take your watch off to put it on. And I'm certainly not built like Popeye.

Odd how some companies can get it wrong both ways and then some companies can just get it right all of the time.

I just had a look on their website purely because of this thread.

Just seems to a site selling a load of clothes you get at Burton but with an occasional cycle top/cycle print t shirt and a huuuuuge friggin' price mark up.

If I wanted a shirt to "tour gelaterias in Italy" (their words off the website, not mine) I'd go to Upim.

    Bandwagon, jumping, good bye.

    Quality control issues maybe?

The Randa was massive in the arms - they would've been flapping around like a sail, I wear large in Rapha jerseys with SS, LS and Winter all fitting perfectly in the arms.

I also have a Gabba in XL that fits well too.

The Vulpine city trousers with waterproof coating that I have are great - mud just shakes off. As to paying a premium for normal looking clothes on the bike, the reinforced crotch is what I'm paying for, all my regular chinos wear out really quickly if I commute in them. Having said that, I only ever bought in the sales as £100+ for a pair of trousers was a no-no.

At least swrve still seem to be in business.

Just had a look there - exactly the same stuff/branding/website/bandwagon jumping as everyone else.

Its just piles and piles of the same stuff.

On another note it seems a lot of their goods were UK made which provides a different context around the price point and not off shoring their manufacturing.

A few tailors in Saville Row should take note but I won't hold my breath.

Very sorry to hear this. I've have a few bits of their kit over the years - Harrington jacket that served me well (although not worn on the bike much), LS merino jersey which rapidly looked a bit ratty but still gets used and a winter cap which is the dogs for really cold days.

As others have said their stuff was simply too expensive in an already crowded market of bigger players - I only ever bought when there was a sizeable discount and if that is your customer base you're screwed I guess.

That's quite upmarket then, compared to Laos or Vietnam, I mean...

Are those the 260 SL that everybody rave about? I have a pair and they are fairly mediocre (and unfortunately very short!)

Yeah... I've go the 260 Pro 3/4s. Pretty happy with them. Comfortable and no length issues. I might even flash them at you this weekend if the weather forecast doesn't improve...

From Swrv - £135 of your pounds. Why would I wear that ? Why am i halfway up a hill on a bike with a basket dressed like I'm doing the decorating ? Why ?

    Different strokes!

I bought one short pair, which are a little too short for my personal taste, and I keep them for the turbo if I have a hard long session ahead, but the two long leg ones I bought, I will keep for proper road rides - love the length, and for me, the XS size, combined with a narrow pad (Arione saddle) is REALLY comfortable.
No idea on longevity yet, as a recent purchase, but for £50 notes, I would say it is a steal - IF it fits you of course.

some of the Fs260's are great ( the 3/4 especially). the normal (sic) sized ones in standard length had issues for me.

    He looks like a tramp.

But hey, some people buy into this stuff and love the image they feel it portrays. Each to their own.

    Nice basket though.

ok so why has swvre only got a menswear section ? not that I want to spend £135 to look like Im wearing some kind of 80s throwback grey dinner lady tabard, that is one horrid gilet design, but whilst by the end Vulpine might have produced similar looking stuff, they at least understood women rode bikes too and would buy stuff they sold if it hit the right marks.

    Interesting!

I had a Hoy Vulpine fortress jersey and all the stitching came undone on the arm grippers. This was about a month ago. Contacted them and got a refund with no issues but they told me that they where only going to be concentrating on the urban cycling ranges. Didn't realise they where struggling that much

Because Lusso stuff is very good and perfectly priced (£30 odd for a pair of brilliant bib shorts means that I've got a couple of pairs tucked away).
