Desperately sad, the coverage of the Alps last stage had finished on tv just 5 mnutes before I saw the news.

RIP Michele, god bless his family.

Just seen this, that's awful news. He'd just had a great ride at TotAs.
His family and team must be devastated.

Caught up with Tour of the Alps this morning as I'd recorded the last weeks racing, heard the news driving back from Coventry this lunch time. Seemed to have been there about as long as I've been into the sport, one of those pros that always seemed to love riding his bike, so sad to think of his two lads growing up without their dad.

Seems he was hit by a Fiat flatbed type small truck/van that failed to give way, driver claimed he didn't see him, judging by the damage to the front of the van it couldn't have slowed much for the junction.

I'm really down about this. A real tragedy.

Nice piece in Cycling News Saturday.

It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.

Can someone please fill in the story of the Parrot Frankie? Seen a few bits on twitter but didn't catch the full story.

It's just a parrot that belonged to a neighbour and attached itself to Scarponi when he went out on his bike (presumably in part because the Astana kit and the parrot were the same colour). Scarponi used to video this and post it on social media.

I've seen that (and the videos of them riding together), but it doesn't tell the story.

    Cheers Rich.

Astana taking an 8 man team to the Giro. Not substituting the leader.

Nicky Hayden (ex world suoerbike champion) killed cycling near Rimini. Another terrible shame. Italy has a poor reputation for road safety exsoecially for cyclists.

I really really want Astana to win a stage in the Giro.

It's not looking likely at the moment
