Wahoo elemnt or elemnt bolt?

I have an elemnt having switched from a garmin 520. Elemnt excellent but if it broke I'd get a Bolt. Prettier and identical functionality. I turn off all LEDs so not fussed about those0

I was waiting for the Bolt to come out to replace using my phone as a bike computer. But realised that as I was mainly making the change so I could have a longer battery life and turn by turn navigation, I'd be much better going for the Elemnt, which I have just received. Yes it does look a bit ugly, but bigger screen was more important to me than saving 12 seconds every 40km0

Although I love the LEDs on my ELEMNT I would agree that on balance if I was buying now I would go for the Bolt, just because of it's slightly smaller size.0 -
Get an email alert from Wiggle to say the Bolt back in stock only to find its still showing out if stock...0

I'm sure some of this batch will be sent out to third party retailers but most are still showing 2-4 weeks.
Sooner or later they'll catch up0 -

It's need to be no later than 20th April!0 -
First ride with new BOLT today. Bloody hell its good. Well worth the upgrade from the 520. Will post a more detailed review at some point.0

I bought a discounted ELEMNT from Wahoo, (replacing a five year old Edge 500 which had worn out buttons and wasn't coping with signals from a new PM), only to discover the following day that the discount had been applied in advance of the launch of the Bolt. I was waiting for the release of the Stages Dash but thought the price was potentially too high and release date uncertain.
I'm not a smartphone user so the Wahoo system is a bit of a pain for me... however, the long and the short is that I am hugely impressed with the ELEMNT; my technophobe questions have been dealt with rapidly and helpfully by the Wahoo support and whilst I'm still a little perplexed by the smartphone interface, the on-bike functionality is exceptional. I was really worried about the screen size (too big?) but again, on the bicycle it's terrific. The zoom-in function is great when focusing on power data, and the whole thing just seems really robust and well built. The coloured LEDs on the side are a bit of gimmick but I'm now finding them useful for quick-glance power data levels. And the big screen helps with maps, something I've never before used on a bike but which has proved really helpful, especially off-road.
Once I've got it uploading automatically through WiFi then I'll be even happier0 -
Here's that slightly longer version of why switching from a 520 to a Bolt turns out to be a really good idea.

after my garmin 500 corrupting yet another file, I have bought the wahoo element. I am looking forward to being able to follow a route. fed up of getting lost. The problem with garmins is not so much the hardware but the software. Files for longer rides are regularly being corrupted.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

Anyone found anywhere with these in stock?0

I've had an ELEMNT for 4 months now and I have nothing but praise for it.
It may look like a step back in time but trust me, it isn't. Non colour maps are the way forward!!0 -
Took delivery of my bolt yesterday afternoon. Initial thoughts :
Nice packaging, took the bolt out OMG it's so tiny, coming from a Garmin 705 which I never thought was big. How am I going to see this screen, oh no.
Setup, I love my tech and was impressed at how easy it was to setup and connect to Strava, RWG etc, just followed the install wizard.
Almost time for school pickup, quickly jumped in RWG and mapped a route to school. On the bolt hit sync button and my school run map was there, impressed.
Took the car (not bike), the second I was outdoors the GPS picked up, started the route, loved the leds flashing for turns and the screen was fine to read and easy to follow.
I only mapped route one way, on the return journey I hit the option to retrace my route (a feature I was really looking for, club rides when you have to head back early) again worked fine and all very instant.
The aero advantage was clear I hit my highest average speed, climbs were a doodle. Obviously I deleted this from strava.
Next I connected sensors, all very simple, then lastly played with the screen data, loved how I was changing and could see the screen change.
There no profile option so you don't select a bike instead bolt displays figures for the sensors it finds, you can create custom data pages so could configure different page for each bike if sensors are different.
Very pleased so far, feels far more this century.0 -
The problem has been that Garmin have been for too long automatically assumed as the leader in cycling GPS devices. It took the 820 to convince me to change to the Wahoo Elemnt. I wish I'd done it sooner and just gone from the 810 to the Elemnt. Wahoo really have taken a leap ahead of Garmin in my opinion with the simplicity of set up and operation, yet it does everything very well and as good as, if not better than Garmin. Even the packaging is leap years ahead of Garmin. Garmin need to wake up re the cycling GPS world or they will no longer be the No 1 go to. Wahoo just need to make the turn by turn alerts louder.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0

The various mounts that Garmin have supplied recently have effectively muted my Edge 1000 so the Bolt is going to be no worse
Once demand has died down a bit, I'll get a Bolt. I don't need it but want to support the effort but I also don't want to buy from under the noses of people that really need one.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

Seriously, they are very quiet. I'm long sighted so the Bolt was no use to me. The Element though is perfect screen size.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -
My only gripe with the Bolt is that you can't silence the beeps for turn alerts (yet). Been told it's coming though. Nothing spoils a nice quiet ride outdoors more than a beeping bike computer. (for me anyway).0

You must have really sensitive hearing then as it is barely audible and there's nothing wrong with my hearing. You can turn off turn by turn simply by using a map that doesn't support turn by turn on the device ie not RWGPS or Komoot.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -
My gripe is that its grey and not black0

I haven't had any issues hearing it either in London or out and about in the countryside. Just don't like it as it's an annoying noise and can follow the route just fine without it bleeping at me.0 -
Does the Wahoo fit on Garmin mounts?
I'm tempted to get one to replace my Edge 820 but don't like the idea of having to spend an extra £40 or £50 on mounts for the other bikes!0
