    semi-productive day, wfh, cafe trips

    significant achievements...

collecting up all my new/used tubs and checking them...
    - one to bin as the tube got stuck together by sealant, my fault, but grrr all the same
    - one to repair
    - surprised to find umpteen, 6-8 maybe, i had already repaired, pressure tested them all at 10bar to check
    - seven or eight new and unused
...which at current retail is over a grand's worth, maybe i should get a tub safe

also noticed brake pads on commute bike were approaching lethally thin, fitted new ones

    what a day, huzzah!

This ^. This is a bad sign. It wasn't that long ago that the brethren of BB aspired to high levels of sophisticated shirking. Whilst the influx of new subscribers - oxoman, madmalx, ws etc are welcome, the trend is alarmingly veering towards boasting about how much work one has done.

    This has to stop.

Done feck all today, now sat with feet up drinking a beer...is this the sort of behaviour we expect or wot! :D

Highly commendable. I hope that roof is heading towards your wood burner.

Too hot for a fire!

That looks like an englishman to me.

Talking of which, had to have a word with a guy at work yesterday, nothing bad. The fecker burst into tears, right in front of me. Didn't know whether to give him a hug, or drag him outside and give him a kicking. He's english, just sayin like.

You told him 'this' had to stop after what the lady said at the STD clinic?

Nope, told him i'd noticed he seemed a bit anxious. That's when he started greetin like a bairn and gave me some story about thinking he was in the wrong line of work.

I hope you suggested Nursery Nursing as a career move and you would be totally supportive?

Told him to make good use of his time off next week and have a good think about his 'options'. (He's in his mid 40s and has over twenty years of experience in the industry.) Then i'll give him that kicking

English? Weak then. Pitifully weak. On today of all days. I'd go and give him a kick in the nuts first thing tomorrow morning and tell him to man up immediately.

So I can picture working for a bank being many things, but not worth crying over. That seems more indicative of other problems in life.

It depends not on where you work but the people who surround you and what else is going on in life (past and present).

One of my hot spots at work is mental health and the phrase I use is that everyone is fighting a personal battle.

They guy in question may have what may seem as a cushy number but if he actually detests the job and people who is working with (maybe personality clashes, office politics, bullying, any number of others) and is stuck there due to family or financial requirements every day he's staring into his own personal abyss.

Tread carefully in this one my man - poor sod maybe going through a personal hell.

Major: "So Private, you say you're not in a fit mental state for the front line?"
Private: "That right sir, post traumatic distress, my nerves are completely shot."
Major " Ok, I'll send you to MF for some therapy."
Private: "Actually sir I'm starting to feel much better!"

I agree with you completely. If I got to that stage i'd be thinking "feck this for a lark, i'm off to find a job at asda".

He needs to be reassured all the time, like some kind of mental girlfriend.

I jest, but I actually do feel his issues run deeper. Had a word with HR today about possibly finding him an easier role, or one that he's more suited to at least. If I just thought he wS taking the piss I would actually be looking towards giving him the heave ho.

Of course, drinking ten pints on a school night probably does him no favours.

Ever thought he's drinking himself to death 'cos of you?! MF will definitely push him to pints of Vodka and totally finish him off.

He's only been working here for six months. Left his last job because he couldn't cope there either.
I'd interviewed someone else for the job and was going to offer him the post. Then someone went over my head whilst I was away, someone who'd worked with him before
