My Man 2017

Comments

  • Wilco Kelderman - Will he - won't he at Sunweb - (on a retainer/retainer)

Warreen Barguil - Will he - won't he at Sunweb (is he bothered?)

Ion Izagirre - he's Basque , he's got a Z in the name - he can light it up

Thibault Pinot - this is a my man for life - but he is the artist of the mountains, capable of greatness but vulnerable (and unorthodox) I don't think he has actually been training this winter ? but is down for the Giro. It could be a masterpiece or a slashed canvas

Alex Geniez - move to Ag2r opens up opportunities and a fresh perspective

Yoan Offredo - move to Wanty opens up opportunities and a fresh perspective

Owain Doull - who/what will he become

Nacer Bouhanni - ding ding - final round - come out fighting (but not in hotels)

Kenny Ellisonde . -SKY  Italy -France- Spain? domestique, leader, stage hunter? Intriguing - but will always give a shout

Speaking of my men, has anyone seen a link to the full version of the Quick Step film, One Year in Blue?
  • I find giving reasons to why I picked someone almost as hard as showing my "working out" when doing maths questions.

You shouldn't have to give any other reason than "he's my man"

Esteban Chaves - he might have a good shout again this year if he can keep his form, and if greenedge can deploy Kreuziger well then he could be the difference between podium and the win.

Zdenek Stybar - just feel like he going to just crush a classic one of these days... just hope its this year although he wont be a protected rider so need to be a solo.

Luke Rowe - was there or thereabouts and he went on a training ride recently and forgot to charge the batteries so was stuck in same gear for remainder. boy after my own heart.

Martyn Irvine - romantic choice, just like to seem him do well. probably wont do anything of note, but hope springs eternal.

Degenkolb - after the accident id like to see if he can cut it with the big boys. probably not got the out and out speed for the TdF sprints, but classics and longer finishes may be a shout.

    Sagan - obviously

Valverde - not taken in by his apparent change in nature in recent times - he's the same to55er he's always been
Bouhanni - all the tantrums of Cav, none of the talent
Impey - drugs cheat ('contaminated pill machine' my ar5e)
Farrar - just hate him. No reason

Given G's decision to miss the classics and go for the Giro I'm dropping him in favour of Hugh Carthy.

Congratulations Hugh. G, you'll just have to prove me wrong and earn your place for next season.

Does anyone with search skills have a link to last year's thread? I need to remind myself who is currently in my team. And yes, I'm being lazy.

It is. Most people have more than one though. Unless you're Barguil's mum.

He's the next big thing, no-one else matters... :) (Ok, now I sound like his mum...).

    Warren "real deal" Barguil.

Honestly, I like riders who can win Monuments and GTs. He's pretty much the only new rider coming through who I think might be capable and after that nasty crash last year I'm hoping he comes back strong this year.
  • OK My Men for 2017

(I don't think I had any for last year, it was clearly a rollover for me)

Cav - because he's always been my man and always will, plus he's small.
Michał Kwiatkowski - because he's always been my man regardless of his short length plus he's small.
Richie Porte - because everyone needs a tiny Toblerone in these hard economic times, yes he's small.
Little Pete - the clue's in the name.
Kenny Elissonde - because, yes, he's French, and he's small.
Domenico Pozzovivo - I for one have not had enough of economists and what do you know, he's small.
Esteban Chaves - guess what? Yes that's right folks, he's small.
Nairo Teenytana - he might win something, and he's small.
Steve Cummings - because you have to have an outlier and it's Stevo and he's f*cking awesome.

My formula has meant I have no Dutch riders I can't imagine why?
    Correlation is not causation.

Chaves is only a year and half older and has already won a monument and been on two GT podiums (and had a nasty crash).

Fair point, but he's already done one of the things and I'm not sure he's capable of winning multiple monuments (as in different ones, not one several times) but we shall see. Maybe one of the Yates brothers could...

If Barguil wins a monument I'd start believing weekendcyclingfan's arguments.

6th in LBL and 8th in GdL at 24 after being run into by a car in early season training and breaking his wrist. Be careful what you say... ;)

It's a big step from top ten in a monument to actually winning one.
  • If you're Hinault's Crap Cousin, the age range would work to potentially make you Warren Barguil's Mum #justsaying
