Let's get this started early to take my mind off what's happening to the UK.

I certainly won't be winning the prize for most CQ points, but my picks are based on riders I'd like to see do well and in most cases show some fantastic potential.

Miguel Angel Lopez
Fernando Gaviria
Bryan Coquard
Magnus Cort Neilson
Michael Valgren
Stefan Kung
Egan Bernal
David Gaudu
Edward Theuns

Shouldn't we be doing a review of the 2016 my man team - and not just by how they did on points?! Will be along with my analysis a bit laters...

So let me get this right as there seem to be a few opinions flying around that My Man should not be for already successful riders, but more for those with vague notion of panache or some such quality?

It can be anyone you like. If you're ultra-competitive you'll go for Sagan, Quintana, Kristoff etc. If you like to see a youngster or someone show a bit of a spark then fair enough, and of course if you want panache then there's Aru, Zakarin and the Praying Mantis.

My preference is youngsters, but not in a Gary Glitter way.

The essence of the My Man squad is to able to shout "MY MAN _______ DOING __________!" in the spoiler threads. For some, this will be "MY MAN _________ RIPPING THE LEGS OFF THE PELOTON ON THIS CAT3 CLIMB!" as some domestique takes a brief stint at the front on a fairly slow day in the TdF. Others wish to lay claim to hugely successful riders everyone already knows and watches, such as "MY MAN CONTADOR BLOWING THE RACE APART!" as Alberto makes a 10 second attack, gains 5 meters and then drops back, eventually being ejected from the lead group.

It's basically up to you. I prefer the unsung heroes and up and coming youngsters. There are no points awarded for wins or panache.

The aim of the game is to turn any spoiler thread or discussion into a thread about YOU. You will be aiming to demonstrate your inherent superiority to other posters by frequently pointing out that the riders you happen to like are those that make pro-racing worthwhile, preferably in contrast to riders that others either like or assess to be riding well. It is imperative that Your Man is incapable of doing anything other than riding brilliantly, and every act must be spun to this effect. Wheelsucking and sitting in are canny racecraft, desperate gambles against all odds when there are no other options left are indefatigability. Any failure is purely down to other riders who are not Your Man riding in a manner unbecoming of a professional cyclist (e.g. wheelsucking, sitting in, having a good hard working team). Any successes will vicariously demonstrate your ability to appreciate all that is good in racing while others are merely fanboys, bandwaggon jumpers and closet nationalists who care nothing for the finer points of the sport.

  • Esteban Chaves (In) - Smiles for miles. If OBE ride Le Tour as a three pronged attack with Chaves and both Yates, they *might* find a yellow jersey...
    Tony Martin
Niki Terpstra (In) - Confused as to why everyone hates him. I like him.
Gaviria (In) - Cheaper than Sagan?
Stephen Cummings - still got some wins in him. I hope.
    Taylor Phinney
    Nathan Haas
    Adam Yates
    Simon Yates

    OUT
    Alberto Contador - he's done.
Kwiatkowski - can't find him anywhere.
    Sagan - budget issues.
Majke - time for a change.

I think we should make a rule that if you choose Peter Sagan you also have to take Juraj.

    Them's da rules.
  • Eugh way too much love for Chavez.

I have a Chaves coffee mug and the ridiculous snood with his smiling face on it.

I try to have a limit on Sky riders. Doull's buggered this up a bit.

  • Seeing as most riders have now signed contracts, shouldn't we have some sort of time pressure on this?!

The off season is long... Let's at least get to 2017... Much to mull over
  • Would have to have a think about whose colours I'd want to admit nailing to my mast (erm, I've just realised this metaphor is about to get extremely creepy), but I'll be keeping an eye on Hannah Barnes next year (...told you).

ETA - I genuinely like Barnes, rather than trying to be a creepy old man - and I'm interested to see how she does.

    MM2016
Craddock - Cut, never seems to do anything.
Ten Dam - Cut, never sparked my interest this year.
Valverde - Cut, he's a great racer but there's always someone else I'd prefer to win even if he's in a solo breakaway.
Geshke - Cut,another who had a quiet year.
Stannard - Cut, pains me to do it though.

    Provisional MM2017
G - Staying, needs to concentrate on the classics though, no gc'ing.
Chaves - Staying, some great racing from OBE this year so hoping for more of the same.
    Kiryienka - Staying, he's awesome.
Dombrowski - Staying, hoping for more this year though
Rowe - There's a big race with his name on it this spring. Subbed him for Stannard so big shoes to fill, hope he can handle the pressure.
Porte - Staying, hope he goes for the Giro where I think he would stand a great chance.
    Cummings - Obvs.
Yates - More great racing this year please.
Swifty - Best season of his career ahead I reckon.

And it was only whilst doing this I realised MM2016 was actually ten riders strong.

If you stop rocking the boat it'll be plain sailing for the rest of the discussion.

Isn't Lopez out of action? training crash or something, so he'll be lucky to keep his fitness up.

    As per my signature...

A mix of experienced riders with something to prove, and young riders with something to prove.

    Sums up Jumbo I suppose!
