Not that much at Budders, but got one or two looking along the beach on a long lens. Nothing great, but better than nothing.
Friend timed an earlier photo just right (using my camera)... we didn't think the 'road closed' sign would apply to bikes, but... (I was just unclipping, and didn't get wet feet at all)...

Bought myself a cheap second-hand 70-300mm lens on MPB earlier. Hoping to use it at the weekend to get some photos of friends doing a running event in the Elan Valley at the weekend. With a bit of luck there might be a bit of snow in the backgound scenery.

I'm sure you'll love it! Just the one thing to be wary of if you're not used to long focal lengths and hand holding, keep an eye on shutter speed. All too easy to get the shakes at 300mm even with vibration control.
I tend to use Shutter/Speed mode (whatever it's called on your camera) at 1/200+ and auto ISO. That's with VR.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Thanks, I might set it up on a tripod and just use a remote trigger as I'm thinking of taking the dog with me too. I did consider the Canon option which supposedly has very good stabilisation but it was twice the price and I suspect it won't be a lens I use that often as I prefer landscape stuff.

Did you use the horizontal crank quarter turn and backpedal technique to keep those feet dry? It works well until the bottom bracket gets submerged, then it’s soggy socks all the way home.

It might be more useful than you think. A good range, and not just for long distance shots. Close focus, and it’ll blur backgrounds even at f5.6.

True. I've started to use mine more and more for landscape shots. It's nice when hills/mountains are not pimples in the background any more. 😉 One thing I did notice with mine is that the initial result are a bit flat. A bit of punch can easily be added in post though.
Three very different shots taken at 300mm.

Ha, no, we reckoned it was 3-4ft deep in the middle, so that was as far as I/we went. Took a diversion to reach Budders.

I've noticed on YT vids, Nigel Danson and co, seem to use 100-400mm much more, than in the past, picking off details from the landscape. And where would I be with my waves without one.😀

Oh, I see. I bottled it myself today with a flooded section. I decided to walk around. Bad idea, the mud was so soft, it got squeezed up between my shoe covers and shoes, yuck.

It’s got a macro function on it too, does 1:2 in focal lengths from 180mm up with a minimum distance of about a metre.

To much work and too much rain (and not enough cycling) to be faffing around with a camera, other than my phone at school.

I always like a 'two weathers in one photo' shot - from my top floor this morning:

Looking at the weather forecasts I should have something a bit different to photograph up in the Elan Valley tomorrow. Hoping for enough snow on the hills but not too much to make travel difficult or for the race I'm photographing to be cancelled.

Trying to take advantage of the weather.

Nice juxtaposition.

Thanks. Tried to get a nice puddle reflection elsewhere, but had to rush it as a bus was approaching and it didn't really work out.

Not today's. A gap in the rain.
Tick follows tock… Today’s waves were taken long exposure, tracking handheld, for a slightly different look.

Still waters ran not very deep... feet still dry after crossing the channel.

It was about 5/8" deep, so no. Phone just above the surface on widest angle, so the thing in the middle distance is a kerbstone. With the glare I couldn't really see anything so just point snd and hope.

Glad you survived, anyway. Though I feel you should go prepared next time.

The 70-300 was getting used again today. A Grey Heron fishing for lunch.
PS - Has Action Man had a make-over and/or cosmetic surgery? Fairly sure he used to have a scar. 😉

Not sure how an Action Man will help but I'll give it a try. The scale would be about right.

Outward journey. Lovely colours today.
Return. I tried a different composition. Frustratingly, I couldn't quite separate the island from the background, even perched on the cliff edge with the camera above head height.

Took a trip up to the Elan Valley to support some friends in a 30k race. The drive up was eventful with a clear A road suddenly turning into a snow covered A road in the course of one bend which resulted in one car load of my clubmates spinning off into a hedge (all OK and just some minor car damage), a minibus being pushed up the hill going the other way and a tanker getting stuck after having to stop for a nervous driver. The race itself goes over a 400m climb after the first mile and whilst it was clear when I arrived it became near blizzard conditions as the race started blowing right in their faces.
The recent weather did mean that I finally got to capture Caban Goch dam in all its glory after several dry attempts.
I then tried to get the snow capped Fans behind Llangorse Lake on the new telephoto, I couldn't quite get above the hedge but quite like the effect. I then found a hole in the hedge and took a wider angled shot with the kit lens. I intially went to Llangorse Lake itself but all the pontoons I would normally use were under water.

Nice shot of the runners. Looks grim.
I would have been tempted to stick with the longer lens at the gap. Hope you don't mind.
