Is the iPhone 7 the death of Garmin ?

Mostly so that my phone battery will still be usable throughout the ride.0 -
I carry my iPhone (not an iPhone 7 BTW) with me on bike rides in case of emergency only. I really wouldn't want to risk draining the battery. You also get reduced functionality with phone apps for bike rides compared to using a Garmin Edge cycle computer.
Also, in case people weren't aware, you can get notifications sent from your phone to your Garmin device so you'll always know if someone has messaged or called you.
There's also a slight security element to be aware of. An expensive iPhone is an attractive target to be swiped when you're stationary. I used to use an old Samsung Galaxy S2 phone with Endomondo as my bike app before I got my Garmin Edge. On several occasions I noticed some unsavoury characters eyeing up the phone when I was at traffic lights or stopped for some other reason.0 -

Oh you're right, I've just checked and an iphone SE is a billion pounds!

I think that was being very conservative with a cost estimate. I've just looked at the cost of an iPhone 7 and the cheapest I found was with 3. The upfront cost plus monthly line rental worked out at over £1,000! Garmin must be shitting themselves. :-DI ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0

I have my own views on iPhones in general which I won't record here but, quite apart from the fact that IMHO they (or any other smart phone) look kind of wanky stuck on the front of a bike, the point raised by rumbataz about their ability to attract thieving toerags when on display is a pretty good reason not to use one as a cycle computer. Also, to answer the OP, again IMHO 'no way Pedro'.Cannondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra

I have a 6S and will most likely buy a 7 or 7S next year but it will never replace my 520. I don't want a big ole fcuk off phone stuck at the front of my bike, the 520 is neat and on an aero mount sits nice and flush with the top of the bars and is barely noticeable, the same couldn't be said for an iphone no matter what way theyre mounted.0

Apple would say it is for everything simply to try and sell units. A smart phone might do lots of things, but it isn't necessarily any good at any of them, phone calls and SMS accepted.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -

Slightly off original topic (again!) but, having used iPhones supplied by work since their early days, when I found myself in the position of having to buy my own phone, I went Moto G and found them to be excellent (particularly battery life which is much better than the Apple product). However, if you believe the numerous reports, the Moto G isn't even much good at taking phone calls after the latest Android update. I have resisted updating mine so far and will continue to do so until Motorola sort themselves out.Cannondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra

Well if you want to compare lower/older models, how about an 810 for £180? Does everything you want and more.
