Any ideas why it was stopped? Typical S.E. of England traffic congestion event though closed road event or something more serious?

Don't run the sportive same day as the pro race. Simples.Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.0

Watching the race now... and recalling my rides in Surrey (without much nostalgia, to be honest)... someone overcooked Whitedown Lane descent... been there, done that :-)left the forum March 20230

Quite enjoying this and unlike Ugo quite nostalgic about my old Surrey rides.....although not the road surfaces.0

This.
I think we'll see a Saturday sportive and Womens/Mens Saturday in future.
25,000 people trying to race a sportive with such a small gap allowed between the events was asking for trouble.Follow me on Twitter - http://twitter.com/scalesjason - All posts are strictly my personal view.0 -
It might be a *chipper* but it has become quite interesting. 4 up front, Geraint Thomas has taken off from the peloton which has caused chaos in the main bunch. Froome covering attacks from what remains of the peloton.0

Because they were held for about an hour for the air ambulance to tend to a man down.
There were hundreds stationary in Kingston when I came back through at about 10.0 -
I'm not sure having Millar moving up and down the race on the back of a motorbike is the best advert for race safety given the incidents we've had recently.0

Did you move somewhere dull and flat? I now ride in the Cotswolds... much better... roads are better, quieter, more scenic and climbs are harderleft the forum March 20230 -
No, Chilterns- which I do enjoy more but I did like the Surrey Hills when I lived closer to there.0

Cheers. Be interesting to know more. I can understand a blockage of that nature in proper countryside as happened with Tour of the Borders last year, but surely down south there is plenty of alternative diversions to get the sportive riders out the way.0 -

This BBC foursome is great too!
It was *dreadful* before it went on to BBC1 earlier with Hugh Porter, just dreadful.Follow me on Twitter - http://twitter.com/scalesjason - All posts are strictly my personal view.0 -

This video of a day on a motorbike at the TdF from Cycling Maven was a bit of an eye opener for me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_08ie1xc7c0 -

Totally agree. Love DM in the Laurent Jalabert mode.0 -
There were two separate incidents requiring air ambulances and diversions, so huge holdups and chaos.
As for riding the sportive on a different day, yuor chances of getting road closures in Surrey and central London on not one but two days....
Liking this Geraint/Stannard thing, very strong.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -
