I would agree with you for any other rider (except Tom D) but Froome is one of the best TTers around. The groups will be so small after the climbs that there won't be any domestiques to chase him down. But this is all idle speculation either way :D

I'd be surprised. And, as RR says, there are other riders with a much better chance of winning, but this is the Olympics and strange results are commonplace. Who would've bet on Vino winning in London on what was widely billed as a sprinters course?

The reduced team sizes and severity of the course means it'll be down to a small group of favourites with one or two team mates on the penultimate lap. From then on it'll be a question of getting in the right moves and timing your own move perfectly.

    How good is Chris Froome?

    He's alright, yeah, not bad.

I've decided this is the answer to this question.

Well if he attacks on the final climb, descends 'like a boy' and ITTs on his own for 15km to take the win, do you mind changing that to "quite very good"?

I never make a prediction or a promise on a grade. If you don't like the grade after final submission you may appeal to the Exam Board who may appoint an independent assessor. :P

No, that would be bloody amazing so I would have to upgrade to "extremely good" and give him a special shiny sticker for extra achievement.

As I said above I think he's shown the kind of riding that could be successful in one day races if he put his mind to it. Whether he will is totally different

Tough climbs? I'll have you know Box Hill is the Alpe d'huez of the South East
My summer evening training rides from near Westminster Bridge would take me out through Clapham/Putney Heath to Kingston Hill then Chessington, Leatherhead By Pass and over Box Hill or the harder/steeper Pebblecombe.
Now why I wonder every time this Olympic course has never used the Pebblecombe Hill climb to complete that circuit. (more of a Mur de Huy climb)
Box Hill was a steady on the tops grind but never an Alpe d'Huez.

With 200m to go I think Uran would have put his house on it... So to speak.

Tend to agree but I wouldn't be surprised if that is the tactic.

Seems a decent tactic to me. Yates has shown he's perfectly capable of keeping with the top riders, so if you had he and Froome in a smallish group of 10 or so, then Froome attacks. Would this group want to tow Yates to the end?

If he manages to escape and Valverde is in the immediate chasing group he will win (by minutes )

I have to say that all these assessments of how good Froome is miss the mark entirely.

The correct answer is, of course, not half bad.

"We've given up the yellow jersey once and I've seen a pretty disappointed Froomey when he had to hand it over," Sky's Luke Rowe said at the finish. "He won't do it again."

French rider Romain Bardet wants his country's fans to show Tour de France rival Chris Froome more respect. Bardet received passionate support on Sunday when the 15th stage passed through his local Auvergne region. However, British race leader Froome suffered some jeers and insults.

"I heard that Froome was abused at times," said Bardet. "I'm really sorry, he's a champion who should be respected, who I respect as a rival and who doesn't deserve that treatment."

I would put Froome on par with me, maybe a little better on the hilly stuff, but I smash him when it comes to TT's, flatter courses....

And then I wake up and realise I'm sh!t at cycling and not a multimillionaire being paid to play on my bike.

In all seriousness, I never rated Froome to be 'up there' until last years TdF when he smashed Stage 8 on the descent. He really isn't a one trick pony (climbing), and his TT placings are getting better and better.

In my opinion he's one of the greats. Trouble is I can't warm to him. He has no style on a bike whatsoever, his team trash the opposition on climbs and there is always a TT close to the end for him to clinch it.

I know that's probably wrong but I want variety, class ( a la Valverde who looks fabulous on a bike) surprises in the Pro Ranks and not a stick insect fighting with his bike in a silly low gear and those stupid oval chainrings.

    Just my 5p !

Froome's a great climber, he's always there at the sprint just out of trouble but has the speed, he's a great TT'er and he's a great descender. Plus he's a leader and he's mentally strong enough to boss a GT, unlike other good riders like LRP, NQ, Rigo etc..

What more do you want for heaven's sake, he's the real deal!

He is boring as f**k though. Zero flair or personality IMO.
