Good hectic sprint. Was great that the commentary on the stage today was nice and balanced with the constant need to mention Cavendish every few seconds removed.

Great ride from Froome/Sky. Sagan has to be the best rider overall.

Sagan's rear wheel was really losing it at the end there. Not sure it cost him the win really at all but it would have been a popular win had he done so.

    Late post of the tour.

I've enjoyed this edition very much and my man won. I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

Great result - pleased for Chris Froome, but that said, it's not often you see a pro sportsman with skinnier legs than any of the podium girls.

I am really pleased for Bardet. And I will now admit that I no longer dislike Sagan, the boy's grown up.

And thank god Leslie Garrett isn't here this year.

And I feel sorry for anyone having to do this speech after Bradley's 'drawing the raffle'.

Yeah after that I prayed that a brit would never win again. One cringe after another.

Seriously? I disagree with the 'most boring Tour ever' posts but an 8/10?

    Yup it had everything:

Cav got 4 wins, wore Yellow for the first time, became second best stage winner of all time.
    Cummings win
Froome raced his best race of his career, and attacked a descent
    The cross winds stage
    Mont Ventoux drama
Adam Yates and Meintjes showed they will be future Grand tour challengers
    Sagan has been great value
Tom Dumoulin and De Gendt got wins
Edward Thuens had a day in white

Infact if it was only for cav's 4 wins I'd have given it 8.

Obviously, this Tour was awful. Already I can't remember any of it. So I thought I'd do my potted history of the previous 10 years.
2006 Tour: rubbish. Farcical dopers take chunks out of each other- result irrelevant, waste of everyone's time.
2007 Tour: rubbish. Only entertainment coming from more farcical dopers taking chunks out of each other whilst stoic serial plodding Aussie brings up the rear.
2008 Tour: rubbish. Late bit of entertainment comes from serial plodding Spaniard (good climber: hung on in TTs) mugging his own teammates, the Schluckle Brothers, for the win.
2009 Tour: rubbish. Can't remember much other than famous doping Yank getting dropped and eventually removed from podium finish to be replaced by serial plodding Brit (good in TTs: hung on on climbs).
2010 Tour: rubbish. Chain fell off- yawn!
2011 Tour: rubbish. Serial plodding Aussie (good in TTs: hung on on climbs) finally has his plodding rewarded. Whoop-De-doo...
2012 Tour: rubbish. Serial plodding Brit sets power meter upper and lower zones at start of race - maintains it all way to Paris.
2013 Tour: rubbish. Serial plodding Brit(ish) Mark II tries to pull wool over eyes of traditionalists by cynically adding erratic and unmatchable speed to serial plodding.
2014 Tour: rubbish. Awful, in fact. Victory handed to serial plodding Sicilian who carries on serial plodding when all proper GC hopes have crashed out. Travesty.
2015 Tour: rubbish. Plucky Colombian serial plodders have a vain crack at Brit(ish) serial plodder (the cynical one) who pretends to be peeky to maintain some sort of interest. Bless 'em.

It's an awful sport with nothing to commend it if the Tour is regarded as its pinnacle. Roll on tomorrow when we've got a full 49 weeks before this dreary bag of sh!t starts up again.

Today Haimar Zubeldia moved into the top tens of most Tour finishes and participations.

    Of course nobody noticed.

We did actually get to see something of Zubeldia this Tour and they even interviewed him on the Cycling Podcast. I should have added Zubeldia 'presence' to my reasons why it was good.

Below is the top ten in terms of average stage finishing position:

    20.0 VALVERDE Alejandro
    21.0 QUINTANA Nairo
    22.0 KREUZIGER Roman
    22.4 FROOME Christopher
    25.8 MARTIN Daniel
    26.6 YATES Adam
    26.8 ARU Fabio
    27.2 PORTE Richie
    27.9 BARDET Romain
    34.3 MOLLEMA Bauke

Not really a surprise but I just put all the stage results into a spreadsheet so I'm posting it. You're welcome.

Oh and if anyone wants to know why I just spent Sunday evening putting numbers into spreadsheets it's because I read a particularly boneheaded thread (sorry HD if you read this...) in the Cake Stop where someone asked earlier in the Tour why if Cav has won 4 stages he isn't the race leader. That lead me to wonder what the GC might look like if you did that.

Wrong, those are their seatpost diameters. Ritchie playing the percentages with 27.2.

It definately cost him the win, he had no traction for a bit and his power was still going through, it's a very similar spot to where ChavAnguish popped a rear wheelie a few years back.

Mark Renshaw mentioned it on itv4 coverage, basically saying it's a rubbish bit of road on that side. Better, faster bit of road is in the middle.
