All 4 I approached, including those recommended by BC/CTC (S&G, LD) both wanted a 25% cut of whatever I "won" - and their fees. I declined this, and they refused to deal with me.
Given my initial assessment showed my claim being worth < £300, I didn't want to lose that 25% as I needed the delta to replace the bike from it's "second hand", 8 year old price of next to nothing.
I think therein lies the difference - the claim was so minor that it probably would have been seen as disproportionate to add the normal fixed legal costs as a separate item, the way they normally do. So they asked for < £75 to provide you with legal representation - that sounds like a bargain to me!
Not when I didn't want to use one, but the insurance company didn't want to talk to me without one.
Jokes on them though, turned out significantly more expensive than just throwing £300 at me to make me go away quickly and quietly.Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.
Bike 1 (Broken) - Bike 2(Borked) - Bike 3(broken spokes) - Bike 4( Needs Work) - Bike 5 (in bits) - Bike 6* ...0 -
They have settled on £1200 for a bike which I can live with. It's based on the 2nd hand value of the bike at the time of the accident and a couple exactly like mine went for £700-£800 ebay so if you say the extra for the wheels I added then I can't grumble.
The £1200 does not include all the bits that got broke, i.e. prevail helmet which I've replaced off a user on here, my iPhone which was in my pocket, Garmin 810 screen replacement via Garmin and the postage £90 plus clothes rips to jersey and bib shorts I said £75 and the all the cost of the shop repair examinations and finally Glasses, jawbreakers. I'm hoping to get another £400-£500 for the lot.
Whats more worrying , I'm still very tender and sore right on the hip bone, sore to touch so their booking me in for physio. Any injury claims will be paid out in the years to come.
I just hope it's not like the wife's car accident , t-boned and car written off it took 4 1/2 years to be paid out for her injuries.0
