A Press Officer wrote:Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka has enjoyed extraordinary success in the Tour de France in 2016. Among the many highlights so far for the Team, the stand out wins on Stage 1, 3, 6 and 14 by Mark Cavendish and the Stage 7 win by Steve Cummings were exceptonal. Our African team was also proud to enjoy time in both the Yellow and Green Jerseys, worn by Cavendish, who extended his Tour de France stage win record to 30 wins taking him to 2nd on the all-time Tour Stage Wins record.
After analysing his workload from the previous stages and his current levels of fatigue, the Team has supported Mark leaving the Tour to give him the best opportunity to recover and prepare for the Olympic Games in Rio. He will not take to the start of stage 17Cavendish wrote:After an extremely enjoyable and successful couple of weeks at The Tour de France with Team Dimension Data, it is with great sadness that I took the decision today to leave the race. After the heat and intensity of the previous stages, we analysed my fatigue levels and decided I’m at a point that would have a detrimental effect on my other big goal for the year, the Olympic Games. To leave a race and organisation that I hold so much respect for and a team that I have such a special bond with, has not been an easy decision at all. I want to say thank you to them, along with all the fans for their support and encouragement, today and over the past 16 stages. I wish Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka and all the other competitors luck in the final few days into Paris, a special place that I will definitely miss the emotions of this year0 -
Just in time for the final shake down in Newport.
Final Manchester session was today."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
No surprise at all. I think he hung on longer than intended due to unexpected success.
Great Tour fit Cav and DD.0 -
Incredible Tour for Cav and the right choice to focus again on track ahead of Rio - he at least owes that to the top riders he is keeping out of the TP squad.
I wonder if Cav could have a sniff at riding in the semi of the TP?You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -
Gutted, wanted to see him race on the Champs.0

Great news. The Champs Elysees will be really good to watch without him.
Let's see how he does in the Olympics now.0 -

What do I win?0 -

Nope, just don't like him, it's not actually compulsory to y'know. I'm genuinely interested to see how he does in the omnium though.0 -

Wow. The douchebaggery is strong in you.
Not wanting to see the best sprinter in history contest the most important sprint makes me think you don't like cycling...0 -

No need to be derogatory.
I have no idea why it isn't ok to have a dislike of Cav or any other rider for that matter? (Maybe I should have written it will be "really good to watch without him FOR ME" though, as that's what I mean).
I'd rather be watching cycling where riders I don't like are not competing, that's completely normal to me.
I think some people just find it odd purely as the overwhelming majority of british cycling fans nowadays seem to default to liking any successful british riders. Nationality doesn't come into it for me whatsoever. If I like any rider I could not care less where they come from.
I also absolutely love watching cycling, and follow it lots on TV as so many of us do, I'm lucky to be able to watch a lot of it as well, I wouldn't watch it if I didn't like it!0 -

Makes a difference that you get a lot more in the local media when the language is the same.
Apparently most of my favourite riders are dutch, Colombian or British.0
