In other news Greipel outsprints Kittel

Kittel can't even beat an ageing Greipel in the Germany Nationals - he must be finished! (I'll admit Greipel is a touch quicker than Blythe)

a sprint from a small group with no lead out is so so different to a tour bunch sprint, in the national they would have been starting their sprint from a much slower speed whereas in the tour it will have been lined out for the last 10k and riders would be on their limit just holding wheels, i think Blythe may suffer on that type of finish, look when he won ride london he absolutely bossed that and Swift while not quite cav isn't exactly slow

Whatever the case with Cav (in terms of how much work he put in, small group, et.), if you are him, losing the sprint to Blythe will be bad for morale heading into the Tour. When was the last time Blythe was even the final sprinter in a race?

Ride London when he beat Swift and Alaphilippe, done it few times in National Road series too, there was that race where he was in the break, then chose to drop back to the main group chasing, did an interview whilst racing. and still beat them in the sprint, generally always wins the sprints at the Revolution series if not dsq'd...ok not you know recent or big races perhaps, but does he get overlooked in sprints slightly, because I was thinking when that final lap and group were forming Blythe was the one you wanted to drop if you were eyeing up the win, because he'll hang on, tuck in on a wheel, wont panic for the sprint, and has got enough speed to come around even the likes of Cav who undoubtedly had sunk alot of energy into those chases.

I'm not sure a race like today is completely comparative to normal stages. Cav did a lot more work than normal.
Yup, I agree and with Renshaw to guide him through the Blythe knocks he might win again.
With 2 laps to go Cavendish put in a mighty surge that split the remaining break but it all came together again.
IMO - He emptied the tank then and was no longer a controller but he became a follower and had Blythe watching him from behind.
I expect Cavendish will be happy to get one stage in the French Tour so he can concentrate on the omnium. ?

Next year he will be back to the missile we know.
One week after he lost the National he recovers with his team to beat all the International Road Sprinters. Outstanding.

YeeHaa, I'm still laughing that the missile shot through the finish Today to win and even in front of my expectations.
Who said :- A Has Been, not me as I had faith.
He won't need the Paris Stage now, this year but next year I expect him to missile again.

This thread is funny for seeing that all the people who were writing Cav off 7 months ago seem to have disappeared themselves.

Always amusing to read when Orica screw up the annual Orica works outing

Scotson's first week as a pro. And brother Callum won U23 TT earlier in the week (again).

We need to start a 2017 thread.
