I've been following Carthy for a while. Would have been on Team My Man but was worried I'd look like some sort of hipster type like what you used to get.
Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy

Any time De Gendt wins a race is a good day. Legend.

My man Quintana takes the overall lead. Clearly the best climber in the world. That's right, I went there.

Taking bonus seconds off Bertie = Panache in my book.

Does Froome’s performance here suggest he and Sky are not planning to smash the first mountaintop finish in the Tour as usual but rather peak later? Maybe far too early to tell, but I wonder.

It isn't the first time he's come to this race well off peak form. He rode it last year when Porte won it for them and ended up 71st @ 45 mins, so at least he's doing better than that so far!

    Based on what, exactly?

Last year he had a chest infection, though.

Andyp: based on Froome being slow. I presume you think that’s completely normal. Okay. That’s what I’m asking.

It does look like they're testing out some other approaches, but I think that's more about tactics than current form. Could well be they want to have a little variation available to them and get some experience of it.

Quintana seems to do very well in the 3rd week though, where Froome tends to tail off quite drastically (ill last year, obviously), so it's possible they're looking at how to get him to peak later - or how to ride if he doesn't make himself unassailable after the first MTF.

E3 was much more entertaining, but yeah seems like he's been pretty active so far so it was nice to see him getting a win.

Rode with his dad a few weeks ago. He's really proud of what Hugh is doing, and is no mean rider himself.

Wins solo on a "sprinters stage*". Top work.
Heard the stage was raced at ridiculous pace, and took nearly 50k to get a break to stick!

*Looked quite hilly for the sprinters to me.

When the French TV commentators went live, they mentioned that 51 km had been covered in the first hour of racing.

Finally the motorbike stops towing the peloton, job done. What a farce. Something needs to be done about this.

For the last couple of years I have to say I've found the final stage a mess or a snooze

there's a lot of complaints from the riders and the likes of Brian Holm about the motos getting too close and way too much drafting
