Why does Richie TT so well? This doesn't look like an amazing position to me:0

I don't think that particular pic does him justice. He's not a classic flat back kind of guy but he's been really good and fairly consistent, results-wise, from his early career onwards. Maybe he could improve some more?0 -
Short riders rarely look like their position is great.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

That was a lumpy old time trial too"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Figured that might have something to do with it, but he doesn't look good on a bike at all. That Pinarello probably doesn't help.0 -
What's the problem? He's little but his position doesn't look horrendous... and it obviously works as he does decently on TTs.

He's in a different position there. The one at the bottom looks better, the NC one looks terrible.0

Although I agree with others unsure if Porte mentally has it when you look at it there are 4 big beasts - Nibz, Froome. Bertie and Quintana (and poss Aru), if they turn up in form, avoid incident and want it, they will take a race. After that you have a good number of possibles, of which I would put Porte right up there if not top of that tranche of riders, especially if there is a decent TT in there.
Do we expect BMC to have both Porte and TJVG as co-leaders at the tour - any word who is doing what next year?0 -

Yes they are in as co-leaders. And BMC have stated that winning the Tour is one of their 4 main objectives, not sure who with though...Moinard? Bookwalter?0 -

Brent Bookend? Why not
There's talk of the co-leadership at the Tour, coming from Titchy. Are we seeing the same party line from Tedious Tejay?
Just that we've been here before *cough* re co-leadership, and what gets said (or not)0 -

Tee Jay :- Since his impressive ride of dropping Evans, I've always contradicted the media's waffle of him being the next GT superstar.
In my book TJ is on a par wth Andy Hampsten.
I think the subtlety of the post is that given certain conditions or circumstances then Tee Jay could (with a bit of luck) win a GT.
Andy Hampten was never going to win a GT but with the extreme weather he did.
You don't think that Magnus Bäckstedt would have won the 2004 Paris–Roubaix if Johan Museeuw or Peter Van Petegem had also got through without puncturing.Organiser, National Championship 50 mile Time Trial 19720 -
According to Cafe Roubaix, both Porte and Van Garderen are heading to the Tour de France.
Interestingly, Froome, Porte and Geraint Thomas will be at Paris-Nice. Porte will fancy it but Thomas might too...0 -

At least if Porte's around to have a go at a win he'll generally give it a shot.
Check back on St 4 of Catalunya this year. Also st 4 of Oman
Watched both of those live but couldn't remember what TJ had done so just had a quick look - good performances obviously but nothing which makes me think he's going to be dropping the main contenders from a select group at the pointy end of the big races. I still say he'll keep himself in contention on the climbs and do well in the TTs though and grind out a podium or 2 and maybe more if luck goes his way.0 -

I know co-leadership has inherent issues however as above if a team like BMC go in with 1 leader against the big 4 then they have next to no chance. 2 co-leaders might not raise their chances much but IMO do raise them slightly - at a base level Porte and TJ can alternate days attacking making it harderfor another leader, it is harder to track two riders than one. It didn't quite come off for Movistar this year at the tour but there were moments when Valverde went off the front and you could see Sky (or other looking to defend a podium) wondering who to follow.0 -

Agreed, though you do need to have the order of preference decided beforehand otherwise the one-two become two riders protecting their own interests.Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy0 -

But you need two riders very close to the lead for that to work, and history tells us that Porte and TJ will both be 16 mins down by the time they get to the Alps.0 -
