Porte at BMC 2016

Just wondering how this will work out and will watch with interest. I still think TJVG can win the Tour and Carusso could improve in the Giro Porte did well in the mid stage races last year but somehow I can't see him taking a 3 week Tour ??
How good is he actually against the clock - he took the Col d Eze but could lose out on flatter stages ( is the pont d arc one up the ardeche valley - if it is - it is tough

well, this is difficult as I fundamentally disagree that TJVG can win anything. I'm not sure Porte really has what it takes to win a 3 week GT (maybe a lacklustre Vuelta), but I think he has a lot more chance than TJ. I think he has earned his stripes at Sky and, if he wants to take a shot, he deserves the opportunity to do so.We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

TJVG 2 x 5th at Tour and never out the top 3 until l he was forced out last year - just needs some Nibali type luck and he's podium bound at least He had that lovely stage in the Dauphin where he was the only one in Froome's orbit

Obviously BMC don't think TvG can win the Tour, otherwise they wouldn't have hired Porte.
He's good, but not the one.
And he whines more than I do.
I have an irrational hatred of TvG.0 -

For some reason I like him but no idea why - this will be a good talking point post Tour !0 -
Tejay's a snooze
As for Titchie Richie, I don't think he's got a GT win in him, personally
Ultimately I reckon Dennis will go further than both of them0 -
Tejay isn't quite good enough to break through though he is technically gifted as a time triallist. Titchie is seemingly better than him in most of the disciplines. they'll take both to the tour and end up with nothing again?
I think porte is a shoe in for the 1 week races. he is very very good at them. though perhaps that's not what he wants.0 -
I suspect neither will get the top prizes, but as mentioned a tad of luck and anything can happen. BMC obviously wanted to up their game but I am not sure who was around for them to recruit who would truly make them GT contenders (if you remove good/bad luck)
However I like Porte so I hope he does well be it 1 week or 3 week races0 -
Didn't frenchfighter get a load of abuse for suggesting that Porte wasn't a GT contender? Seems to be the prevailing opinion now.0

Yes, FF is the soothsayer to end all soothsayers
Last year's Giro persuaded me that Porte aint got the necessary mental attitude
It was the moment when he and Bert had crashed, and whilst Porte stood there fumble fumble with his bike, Bert had yelled at a team mate to give him his bike and was halfway back to the peloton
Harsh but there you go. It just summed it up for me.0 -

Dang... I was just about to say that! Reckon Dennis is more likely to win a GT than either Porte or TJ...0 -

This. Has Rohan Dennis ever shown himself on a high mountain stage?"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Well, tbf Porte hasn't shown himself at the head of affairs over 4 consecutive days, before going BOOM
I dont think he has the mental fortitude. Unlike Quintana, Froome, Bert etc. I think he's a choker.
Dennis...I'll place £20 on the desk that he ends up placing better than 5th by the time he's done. Which is the best either Tejay or Porte have done to date.0 -

I'm in with RR2 (barring career limiting injury). On the right course... and I reckon if Wiggins can do it so can Dennis. Plus he has age on his side...0 -
could you make it 100 pounds - as 100 was the position Dennis tended to finish in last years bumpier stages0

100 internet pounds? No worries
Remember, Porte is the same age as Froome, bar a couple of months. Quintana is much younger. As is Dennis. Pleeenty of time to show a la Wiggins.
Unlike Porte.0 -

Nah. I'm happy with £20. And I'm not saying he is the finished article, but more likely to outperform TJ and Porte in a GT.0 -

I dunno, if oil prices keep heading down then inflation is going to be zip anyway...0 -
Quick note for all attendees. Don't mention the oil price in front of Dish during this difficult time.
