Some of those remaining seats are close!
"California's 45th Congressional District
This race between GOP incumbent Rep. Michelle Steel and Democrat Derek Tran is remarkably close. Steel is ahead by 349 votes with 89% of the vote in. CBS News characterizes the race as a toss-up. Steel is in her second term in the House and is one of the first Korean-American women to serve in Congress.
Iowa's 1st Congressional District
The race between Republican Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Democrat Christina Bohannan is a rematch of the 2022 contest. The 2024 election is very close, with Miller-Meeks leading by 802 votes with 99% of the vote counted. CBS News characterizes the race as leaning Republican."

Not as hard as not having a majority...

True, but still could be a little entertainment if there are any Republicans left with an ounce of conscience.

I'd say not even winning the popular vote is a disaster.

The U.S. closing their embassy in Kiev does not bode well.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Article I read said that this was due to the risk of a Russian air strike.

As I said. Flattening Kiev does not bode well.

Kyiv and other cities have been attacked throughout the war. Obviously Russia wants to make a big show for its home audience.

Education secretary has been appointed.
Another random nutcase off the telly, obviously.

Well, I think it might be quite entertaining, in a horrific kind of way.

You know the phrase "Voters get the government that they deserve"? Big time. Biggliest time ever.
Just unfortunate that the rest of the World (who will be affected) don't get a vote.

I suspect that Gaetz knows that the report on his sex shenanigans would be leaked. I would have liked to think the Republican senators would have baulked at his nomination anyway, but they've not got a great record on pushing back against Trump.

Facebook is an interesting look at twitter's future.
It was a place where people kept in touch when th friends but it's now so adorable heavy that is useless for that now. I'm only one it for one or two niche groups or the Market (motorcycle parts related basically)
Twitter is now useless for the things most people used it for but we are yet to see what it will become. There is no obvious reason to have a twitter account still (I still do just because I can't be arsed to not have) whereas there is for FB...just

i remember using the internet in the 80s, then it was mostly science/engineering/military
then we got the interweb from tbl at cern, access improved and the dumbing down began
unfortunately, a lot of humans are rather unpleasant, many are unintelligent/uneducated, and there's a fair number who are both, the end result is a modern version of the tragedy of the commons
some may whine that this viewpoint is elitist, there's a reason for that

Still one Houses seat to be called, but max majority of 7 (possibly only 5) for the Trumpian Party. It's not going to be as plain sailing as Trump would have liked, especially if the TP has any infighting (mind you, I would put it past Dems screwing it up either).

I hadn't actually realised how big the Republican majority was in the House in 2016 (and yet they still didn't get much done). I guess whether it's a majority of 5 or 7 this time, a lot will depend on how much Trump manages to subvert the way the checks & balances system should operate, and how dysfunctional the House GOP is.

Don't do Twatter or FB or any other social media. Perhaps if my dinners were more interesting I could sign up so I could post pictures.

Your thinking of Instagram in about 2015.

The figures are astonishing.
"The collective net worth of America's richest 12 men is now over $2 TRILLION. The BOTTOM 50% of Americans have a collective net worth of $3.82 TRILLION".

Seems like Musk is the one actually governing by tweet. The bill didn't pass in the end, but if Trump realises that Musk can do this stuff on a whim, he gonna be mighty mad.

I think that the Democrats and Never-Trumpers trolling by calling Musk President-Elect and Trump VP will get right under Trump's fragile orange skin. Trump won't be able to handle thinking anyone has more influence than him.

I've said it before but Musk seems to be styling himslef on Bond villains. He's a fusion of Zorin, Drax and Carver.

Strong argument.
He's rattled, and knows the power Musk is wielding right in front of his face
