Having seen the success of the Yorkshire Grand Depart, I'm surprised the Welsh Assembly haven't jumped at hosting it. Surely a better return than backing the British round of the WRC which gets meagre coverage - surely a no brainer. All Road/ Gravel: tbcWinter: tbcMTB: tbcRoad: tbc"Look at the time...." An unholy alliance in the Mayor's office between people who hate cycling and cycling advocates who hate pro cycle racing scuppered the event. It went off the rails 2 weeks before the annoucement but was kept secret and especially secret from ASO who only found out just before everybody else did. But Boris is, above all else, a politician and this treachery puts him nicely in line with the austerity idealogues in his party (which he has ambitions to lead one day soon) as there is a Govt spending review due soon. As for the claim to save money, the event would have likely generated 3-4 times the 35 million, in commercial activty over that weekend.0

Good for them! Happy Germany is good for cycling, especially at the moment. Is always a bit tragic that they have some of the best riders in the peloton (best TTer, best flat 1 dayer, best sprinter), and they barely get any coverage.0 -

Cycling needs Germany to fall back in love with cycling. They are an economic powerhouse and hopefully this might lead to a couple of WT German sponsored teams.0 -
