Both actually - but certainly cable.
To be utterly clear, hydraulic discs are certainly 'better'.
XT hydraulics on the MTB are so strong you can only really use one finger on them. Using two fingers it's too easy to lock up and hard to get a feel for them.
Canti's on my old CX bike were just too terrifying if I was commuting in the wet unless the rims had recently been cleaned.0 -
Wilier GTS disc on sale. Mopre of a road bike than offroad:

Check how big a tyre you could fit though.0 -
Did you make a decision in the end DDraver? At a slightly lower price point of around a grand the London Rd hydraulic is tempting me.
The other runners and riders are the GT grade AL and the Croix de Fer 30 at a few hundred more in the sales but that's looking the heaviest for the most money and I'm not sure if I'd find it a bit of a weighty beast on group rides?[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -
I'm waiting for the dear Dutch Government to pay me my money so I haven't had to put money on the table yet. If PX suggest I go for a Small XLS (which has a lower head angle) then I think I'll go that way but...as usual...2 days in and no response.
I think i want something that could stand up to proper CX and also "Dutch Mountain Biking" (ie riding on flat sandy singletrack) so an all road bike may not be quite so ideal. We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Wiggle are doing the GT grade Alu with Shimano Hydros if you prefer them to Sram at 50 quid more than PX
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/gt-grade-al-x-2015/
vile colour mind
they have managed to give Alu a brown tinge - maybe it is just the photo0 -
Edit - PX did indeed reply, it just went to my junk folder so my bad. They do recommend a small (though that seems really very small to me) so lookis like i ll go that route.
The next thing is to try and see if the WTB rims they offer are tubeless or notWe're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Well they ve thrown a massive spanner in the works now - XLS kit has all changed and they ve got 2 new TOMAC frames, a CX and a Gravel bike, both of which look much more suited to wnat i want but take it back right to the original problem...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Just to say I've been using a n XLS for the past year, mostly for commuting and it's been fine;have archetypes shode with Vittoria randonneurs for road/cycle path use and a set of old mavics with grifos on for rougher stuff.
Not had a problem with the geo and it's stood up to everything so far;it's about to get a 1X10 conversion and hydraulics at a later date.Ridley Helium SL (Dura-Ace/Wheelsmith Aero-dimpled 45 wheels)

Yeah, that is my current favourite as well, espcially as I have just contact an LBS and the Cube won't be available until "late December".
Never had bother with Evans, at least my local branch (Kendal).
Your comment rather shocked me, so I also emailed a LBS who sadly confirmed what you have been told.
I can't believe Cube are bringing out a bike who's USP is 'ride it through the winter' half way through the season.0 -

Yes, I agree - but then the Jamis Renegade (Expert model £250 more than last year!), which is now on the Evans website, is not actually available until the end of November as well. Still about a month before the Cubes land on these shores though. Seems like there is a massive difference in launch dates for new seasons ranges, I hadn't realised before.0 -

I bought one at that price. The paint finish is actually quite neat in the flesh.
Rides well, even on the tyres it comes on. Going to have a bit of a play on the hills tomorrow.0 -
I'd have had one too if they'd had my size left when I saw the offer ! Currently thinking the London Rd is favourite for me but I want to sit on one as I'm between the two largest sizes, might give a Cube Cross Race a go too but the same problem with sizing so would need to sit on one.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

Could be worse I was told the Genesis Datum I ordered won't arrive until April next year :shock:0 -

If money were no object I'd be after the top specced Datum in a heartbeat.0 -
Thanks bax, trouble is words like "fine"and "not had a problem with" doný fill me with confidence. I want to hear things like "great" and "perfectly suited to"
Ok it's been brilliant
To be honest I may have been underplaying it a bit as it has been pretty faultless so far and it was great fun on slushy and snowy surfaces with the Grifos, even coped with some icy fen drove roads.
Must admit though that the new Enigma Ezona looks nice and if I had the cash would get one of those and just keep the Planet X for off-road duties.

I just bought a GT Grade carbon Ultegra. I know it's outside the OPs budget but a fantastic bike. I've bought it as my road training bike for the majority of my riding and will probably take it off-road during the drier months.0

Been looking at the Cannondale Slate... depending on model it is not due here until February-March! The 2017 version will be out before you get any winter riding done!0 -

Seems to be a theme growing at the minute, with few exceptions most 2016 aren't coming into stock with dealers until december at the earliest.0 -
Jaysus and they re now doing the BishBashBosh (which I suspect is the replacement for the Dirty Disco...)
Can they settle down for a few months please?!?
Good grief, that's LOUD!
http://www.planetx.co.uk/c/q/bikes/gravel-adventure-bikes/on-one-bish-bash-bosh
Very tempting though, but not sure about the single chainring set-up, that would put me off somewhat.0 -

That lead time on the Datum sounds terrible! I was hoping to have one before the end of the year! Are you a particularly unusual size or anything, or do you know if those timescales are across the board?0 -

Yep...I kinda like that though...
Its certainly a much better looking fit in terms of geometry for me too
On a whim I test rode the Whyte Saxon Cross at the weekend, mostly to feel the effect of a slack frame but also to try the SRAM 1x systems. I was impressed. the brakes are great and the jumps between gears are not as bad as I had expected (38 x 11-36). I think for NL chain gangs I might find a 44 x 11-28 set up in the sales though as when I gave it as much beans as I could in normal clothes and around shoreditch, i was using the very bottom of the cassetteWe're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Nope, after a large, so hardly unusual size-wise. From what I know it's across the board, but hopefully it'll show up a bit sooner! Framesets are due in December so I've ordered one of those, just waiting to see which turns up first really!0 -

I could never have one as it's a nickname we have for our daughter, could get confusing.0 -

Seeing what was on offer this year year at Eurobike i think they're pretty much on trend for 2016.0 -
