  • I just got a PM from him, using pretty much the same line about Mods as reborn2.
  • Ok Sherlock, let's have a little wager shall we? :) £20 via PayPal either way? Mods can check ip's im sure.

    No? Oh well...

reborn2 - if you really have read the forum properly, you will have picked up who invariably lobbed the first troll grenade. One person, and one person only.

Yes plenty have then pulled him up on it, and on repeated occasions, others just let it go. That's just life, some people prefer to avoid confrontation, others are happy to get involved.

Trolling is childish and pathetic. Is calling out someone for trolling unreasonable?

Sure it'll be quieter, no one else comes close to the post rate after all!

I'm also sure it'll be a lot less negative.

Will it be better? Time will tell.
  • I'll leave it. As I said in PM to FF it was jovial, just funny.

You do seem to have similar beliefs and bring downs as him.
  • Your partially right. He did provoke some people. Where ever I read one of his "questionable" posts I'd normally shake my head in disbelief then smile to myself as I'm sure most balanced people do.

But for every crazy post (can't stand contador persoanaly as dopers don't get a second chance in my eyes) there was a useful one.

I don't know if that balance is correct, but he did add a lot at times.
  • I'm a bit disappointed in some of the responses here. FF's post is self-indulgent, but isn't a forum just that, a place for us to indulge our opinions and grievances on cycling?

I know he's been annoying on times but this forum will almost certainly be duller if he doesn't post any more. And it's obviously meant enough to him to make that many posts.

Sorry if this comes across as a bit preachy and holier-than-thou but some of the posts about this have been a bit mean-spirited IMO. I sort of hoped this forum was a bit better than that.

+1. I've not been a part of the arguments that have been ongoing but have observed them - at times he was out of order but at other times he was subjected to treatment pretty close to bullying. Now, rather than let bygones be bygones and move on people want to chime in so they get the last word.

It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

I read a fair bit of the forum over the last couple of years. The way I see it, at least he contributed useful stuff in the way of photnly contributed.os and a selection of his posts.

There is however a selection of people on this forum who's soul existence seems to of been about baiting frenchfighter. To these people I ask what are you going to do with yourself now? Maybe take up golf gweeds?

    Welcome to the forum.

If you read FFs "Farewell" you will get a flavour of the posts he made. I have no one on block as I like to discuss racing matters and hear others views on the subjects. Ask yourself why the man in question had so many on block, and why he chose to list them in his "final" post. To be even handed, have a good look through some of FFs posts and make your own mind up why some find the whole "Farewell cruel site" a bit much to take. Its only a cycling forum for goodness sake not the UN.

If you read my post, you'll see I mentioned I've read the board almost daily over the last couple of years so I don't really need to "familiarise" myself.

If you as a forum wish to grow and encourage others to participate at a USEFUL level, some attitudes need to change. That or carry on treating people like dirt just because you'll never meet them and your going to have a very quite 6 months after the world champs..

Oh and I'm not ff as I'm sure any mod could tell you :D

Treating people like dirt??? Dont know where you get that from, I was responding to a "Farewell" diatribe. As I said, its a cycling forum, if I decided it was no longer for me I would simply stop reading/posting, as would anyone else I would imagine. I would never have the ego to post a farewell telling everyone how great I was and how much I had contributed to this most important site and listing all the people I had fallen out with, merely because our opinions differed.

If you dont want to hear different opinions perhaps a web forum is not for you. Or is thet why you read the posts for two years but never participated. If you think being a rabid fanboi, and bad mouthing most other teams and riders is USEFUL then you may like to try the clinic, some good stuff on there.
  • Oh well. This comes to mind, especially the last bit.

    That

For flips sake this is a bike forum, none of us have to pass a test to be here. For most of us it's something we do when A) Bored or B) Procrastinating before we do something actually worthwhile. FFS, one of the best journo's at Singletrack has just revealed she has incurable Stage 4 cancer and there are refugees dying in the Mediterranean every night. Who the hell cares about posting on a bike forum?!? This attempt to portray it as some sort of martyrdom is farcical

I can't believe how, after all this time, so many people still manage to get so wound up by Frenchie. If, as many state, he's just a troll or WUM then he seems to be getting what he wants out of you. Haven't you spotted how his more 'contoversial' posts spiralled when you waded in arguing? Far better to just make your point once and then stay away from the bait.

    Wtf are you talking about.

Dive in. Grow a pair. It's a forum. No-one here is curing cancer.

Now FF has gone you might well find it a lot less divisive. Wrong target I'm afraid.

Grow a pair? A pair of what? This is a cycling forum.

Debate is good. Vitriol is not required.
It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.

In fairness to FF, that block list is pretty much spot on.
  • If you can't say anything nice...

He hasn't actually died, you know. He's just done an internet flounce.
Besides which, your reply could have been to FF himself....

FF, as divisive in his absence as he was when he was here.

I'm sure he's still there reading this thread and having a chuckle that he's still getting a rise out of the usual suspects. I have to admit he used to rile me but after a while I got used to the pattern of his posting and started to try to pick out what were genuine opinions and what was there to wind people up. Still managed to bite at times but not in a fuming sort of way.

Given that (almost) nobody has fixed public IP addresses, and these days kids in their bedrooms have the know-how to obscure their IP or make it look like it's come from a different region, then this is about as convincing as "Never failed a drug test".

    He's dead to me.

Yeah that's what I tried and mostly succeeded in doing, I've learnt after being on several forums over the years that getting involved in internet arguments is always a mistake... The thing with FF is he posts some interesting and well thought out stuff sometimes but his constant trolling is tiresome. Also seems to go in cycles where he posts reasonably for a while and then goes through a trolling phase.

I normally find that whether I feel the need to respond to baiting posts is in direct correlation with whether I've had my morning coffee/breakfast or not...
