Frenchfighter's farewell

    +1.

"Thouroughly annoying, abusive, baiting and childish"(Quote) Huge pot calling the kettle, but I am not in the least surprised.

FF, probably the only poster with the ego to write himself an obit, and its longer than the Gettysberg Address. :D

Four score and seven posts ago Frenchfighter brought forth on this forum a new notion, conceived in panache, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal, except Alberto Contador, who is better.

Latterly he engaged in a great amount of mostly civil discourse, testing whether that notion, or any notion so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that discourse. We have come to dedicate a portion of this forum, as a final resting place for he who here gave many their avatars that that forum might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate, we can not consecrate, we can not hallow this ground. The brave man, living now dead to us, who struggled here, has consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what he did here (mores the pity). It is for us the still posting, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which he who posted here have has far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from French Fighter we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of panache—and that pointless and doomed attacking of the peloton, by the peloton, for the peloton, shall not perish from the World Tour.
    Superb. Post of the year.

This would be a much more positive thread if you didn't include your block list.

Evidently your spats with people have been a big part of your time here, and evidently you relished that. That is a shame. Maybe you should take a leaf out of your own book and try to be more positive.

He doesn't need a spat with someone to block them. If I remember rightly, I questioned a post of his that said religion also meant morality, and that was it. He simply blocks people who post anything he doesn't like.

He posted some decent race commentary, but at least half his posts were biased garbage, either worshipping Contador or baiting fans of other riders and teams, usually Sky.

Indeed. As I pointed out to him, it's classic trolling and blocking is the last refuge of the feeble-minded.

As for the lengthy festival of cack he posted - Flouncy Sinatra.

  • I have stayed so long on this forum, never joined another forum

after over 8 years of faithfulness and monogamy - can we expect him to have a series of mis-guided short relationships with a selection of badly chosen forums that remind him in some way of BR ? including a disastrous one night stand with weightweenies (Contador's pedal choice) and a crushing rejection by a hip Rapha based blogger - Before entering into on a stable relationship with a poorly suited replacement and secretly missing the buzz of his former life?

    and it's sunny,
and there is not chance of any rain..... :D

Thats what I thought after reading some of his more extreme posts. "Its all a joke, he is Trolling and having a laugh at our expense"......but no. Trolls dont put people on block they want to read the mayhem the stir up. He realy was serious. Thats why I couldnt leave it, however hard I tried. In real life he may well be a pleasant boke, but lets face it, hiding behind a keyboard some pople just dont know when to stop.

Maybe, but the usual format was lob the grenade, watch for a bit, wait for someone to bite and then flounce saying responding poster was a dickhead/idiot and then block.

I'm a bit disappointed in some of the responses here. FF's post is self-indulgent, but isn't a forum just that, a place for us to indulge our opinions and grievances on cycling?

I know he's been annoying on times but this forum will almost certainly be duller if he doesn't post any more. And it's obviously meant enough to him to make that many posts.

Sorry if this comes across as a bit preachy and holier-than-thou but some of the posts about this have been a bit mean-spirited IMO. I sort of hoped this forum was a bit better than that.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

I think the tone was probably set by the OP himself tbh. Not quite sure how you expect people to react to this:
There are also those who have been thoroughly annoying, abusive, baiting and childish which is sad to behold but they were in the minority thankfully (although many more in the last 2-3 years) and never succeeded in ruffling my feathers, rather I looked on them with pity. To those posters, try being nice and positive once in a while and try adding some value to the forum, you will find life more rewarding.

The final block list is as follows:
Andyrr, Dabber, Dorset Boy, dougzz, feltkuota, FleshTuxedo, Gweeds, jezzpalmer, Joelsim, keef_zip, lostboysaint, meagain, mfin, mike6, Moray Gub, NorvernRob, nweststeyn, okgo, oneof1982, oscarbudgie, pat1cp, Rollemynot, sjmclean, Squaggles, The Truth, ThomThom, type:epyt, Walter White, ddraver, Daz555

There have been more than that over the time, many on permablock, some come on and off depending on how their posts annoy or bait me. There are some in that list whose majority of posts were in useless reply to me which is quite a sad incitement of their contribution to this forum.

I'm just disappointed I made neither the list of honour nor the blocked list. I seem to have a bad case of the Zubeldias again.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format

Nobody needs to read his garbage, he may be different in real life but why be such a d*ckhead on a forum if that's true? Good riddance.

+1. Deluded and at times repellent.

Feel free to crack on elsewhere. And if you think I'm here to bait that fool you're a long way wide of the mark.

  • I'll "crack on" where I like....thanks for the offer anyway. Speaking from my own perspective, the reason pro racing has so many 'lurkers' and only a handful of posters who are worthwhile reading is perfectly illustrated by your post. You and the likes of you pollute every thread by dragging it down to base levels. Not exactly a draw is it?

    Wtf are you talking about.

Dive in. Grow a pair. It's a forum. No-one here is curing cancer.

Now FF has gone you might well find it a lot less divisive. Wrong target I'm afraid.

    Welcome to the forum.

If you read FFs "Farewell" you will get a flavour of the posts he made. I have no one on block as I like to discuss racing matters and hear others views on the subjects. Ask yourself why the man in question had so many on block, and why he chose to list them in his "final" post. To be even handed, have a good look through some of FFs posts and make your own mind up why some find the whole "Farewell cruel site" a bit much to take. Its only a cycling forum for goodness sake not the UN.

If you read my post, you'll see I mentioned I've read the board almost daily over the last couple of years so I don't really need to "familiarise" myself.

If you as a forum wish to grow and encourage others to participate at a USEFUL level, some attitudes need to change. That or carry on treating people like dirt just because you'll never meet them and your going to have a very quite 6 months after the world champs..

Oh and I'm not ff as I'm sure any mod could tell you :D
